#SB240 supporters claim concerns about 'campus safety' - but the data tells a different story:
🔴 46% of UT Austin students report sexual harassment (bit.ly/3E6NX0U)
🔴 Trans folks are less violent on average
🔴 Black trans students face 57.7% assault risk (NIH)
Why target victims? #TxLege

As Landon Richie just noted in testimony opposing the bill: #SB240 doesn’t ‘protect’ anyone in Texas.
🚫 Increase violence against trans folks
🚫 Put gender-nonconforming people at risk
🚫 Do nothing to improve safety
These bills are about limiting trans people's access to public spaces. #TxLege

Gentle goading time... part 2!
Let's play a game! Quick Bible study question for #SB240 supporters:
📖 Chapter and verse where God told Texans which bathroom to use?

The truth about #SB240:
✅ Most men are not violent (and trans women are not men!)
✅ Gender and sex has been extensively studied - including intersex & trans studies
✅ Privacy is not protected by the surveillance of Texan bodies this bill proposes
Evidence-based policy protects everyone. #TxLege

Our govt affairs director, Miriam, brought the facts to her testimony opposing #SB240 :
- 24% of trans folks have been questioned in bathrooms
- Opens ALL women/girls to privacy violations
- Ignores intersex existence
Texas has always valued personal privacy. This bill flies in the face of that.

#SB240 isn't just anti-trans—it's a blueprint for government control.
Today: bathrooms. Tomorrow: every other private space and personal decision.
Surveillance always starts with the marginalized before expanding to everyone. #TxLege

Gentle goading time! Classic senate chair, interrupting testimony against #SB240 to handle some "unscheduled business".
No problem, Mr. Chair! We'll wait all day if needed. 😉
In the meantime, you can email the Senate Affairs Committee with your thoughts here: secure.everyaction.com/V_auhMsxv0W_...

#SB240 is a mess:
💰 Very Costly
Analysts project a $3.3 billion loss in state tourism revenue bit.ly/4hVz4wt
🚨 Practically Unenforceable
Odessa called ban enforcement 'nearly impossible'. bit.ly/4jipUep
This bill manufactures a crisis to justify discrimination. It’s all cost with no benefit.

Bathroom bans like #SB240 create a world where anyone who doesn't fit narrow stereotypes becomes a target. This includes:
- Men with "feminine" traits (long hair, soft features)
- Women with "masculine" traits (deep voice, broad shoulders
These bills make no one safer! bit.ly/3QZmiBX #TxLege

70% of trans people have experienced harassment, assault, or denial of access in public restrooms. In schools with bathroom bans, the likelihood of harm is even higher.
These laws claim to 'protect' people, but the data shows that they escalate harm.

We know these strategies work, but we need your support to implement them effectively throughout 2025. The sheer volume of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation means we must redouble our efforts.

But there is always hope. EQTX has a proven track record of fighting back against discriminatory legislation. In 2023, alongside our partners, we successfully stopped 96% of bills that would've restricted freedoms for LGBTQIA+ Texans—and we've been preparing for this fight.

This is a distinction no Texan should be proud of. These bills target our community's basic rights & freedoms, from healthcare access to education to just being able to live our lives w/ dignity. They aim to marginalize LGBTQIA+ Texans & erase our existence from public life.

As of today, 205 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills have been filed in the Texas legislature— the highest number ever recorded in Texas. This surpasses the previous record of 141 bills filed in 2023 that we all fought together.

Yes, we are aware of HB 3399 and monitoring it closely. We will be alerting folks about it and how to take action if it gets assigned a committee hearing. Until then, you can let your reps know that you stand firmly in support of LGBTQIA+ Texans. Here’s an easy way to email them: bit.ly/89lege

Turner was often leading the charge on social issues and championing progress. During his 27 years in the TX Lege, he was a fierce ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. Turner vocally opposed discriminatory legislation and stood firmly against attempts to marginalize trans Texans.

The EO would eliminate access to health care for trans people under age 19 across the US, which would have devastating consequences for trans youth and their families. While this restraining order is a temporary block, it is still a big victory for our community!
