Day by day, we’re seeing the Justice Department effectively decriminalize and wave away crimes by Trump’s friends and instead selectively focus investigatory resources on Trump’s adversaries and enemies. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/crime-is-n...

@dziblatt.bsky.social, Levitsky, @lucanway.bsky.social, @annagbusse.bsky.social, @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social. All the right, smart experts interviewed here, which is how you get serious journalism on threats to democracy. Well done, & well worth a read. FWIW, again, I agree with Lucan:

See you at the biggest No Kings event in MN on June 14! www.mobilize.us/mobilize/eve...

Join us in St Paul on Jun 14 for the biggest No Kings event in MN. Let’s show up in undeniable numbers to defeat this authoritarian regime: www.mobilize.us/mobilize/eve...

We The People are standing up to say NO KINGS on Jun 14. Join us! www.mobilize.us/mobilize/eve...

Kind of thought refusing to release innocent people while simultaneously continuing to pardon guilty people might cause a bigger stir in the press.

When the Clock Broke is out in paperback today with a new postscript!

Wow, I am surprised.

May I suggest that the advocates of civility direct their efforts at the president?

Great 🧵 🗃️ for US History and Government teachers #iteachsocialstudies

Becca Lewis’ work reaches far back in American history to trace the nexus of gender, misogyny, technology, capitalism and entrepreneurship. Who are these men, who Becca says, “leave behind the messy physical flows of women’s bodies in favor of the streamlined capitalism of male genius”?

BIG NEWS: Due to large crowd size plus staffing & security logistics, WE'RE MOVING TO ST PAUL. March with us from St Paul College to the MN State Capitol for inspiring speakers, music & more. Help us spread the word on June 14. #nokings www.mobilize.us/indivisiblet...

If we stop calling these “grants” and start calling them “contracts,” it’s clearer to people why this is such an abuse of power. This wasn’t a bunch of gifts. This was a bunch of binding contracts between researchers and the US govt for specific agreed upon projects.

Funny, but when I was a federal prosecutor, people, including folks I know to be conservative Republicans, were absolutely adamant about prosecuting pay-to-play schemes that were much less bold and audacious than this one. Those folks all seem to have gone into hiding now.

I’ve got a piece in the @nytimes.com this morning on the Supreme Court’s quiet but radical shadow-docket order last week handing Trump yet another tool to eliminate independent expertise & authority and consolidate presidential control over the executive branch www.nytimes.com/2025/05/25/o...

Incredibly dangerous. What message does this send to those who would commit further violence, especially after January 6 pardons?

"Security committee members [of the Judicial Conference, a policymaking body for the federal judiciary] worried that Trump could order the marshals to stand down in retaliation for a decision that didn’t go his way." A real statement about the President in 2025. Why democracy is in grave danger.

Oh look, suddenly the spatial history of Chile and Argentina needs historical context. 😌

Interesting 🧵 and QT. I wonder if people, here and there, are not awaree of or just don't factor in his attacks on the Central Park/Exonerated 5 or Obama birtherism. With the former, his refusal to accept evidence of their innocence, even 35 years later, is also relevant.

In the UK this week I kept encountering people who were like "So when is Trump going to drop Stephen Miller. Because obviously the racism is not sincere and was just a cynical electoral ploy" and I had to be like "No these people are sincere and avowed eugenicists. Like they are being serious."

incredible lack of self-awareness from Pinker here

It is kinda funny to me when the segregationists are like 'you need to be focusing on BUSINESS not diversity' and a company responds 'we've actually found that diversity is good for business 🤷🏾‍♀️' and then the segregationists are like wait no

"Witnessing large-scale systems slowly unravel in real time can be profoundly surreal and frightening. The hypernormalization framework offers a way to understand what we’re feeling and why."

Whose Debt Is It Anyway? Where the policies are made up and the scores don't matter.

[Very Yakov Smirnoff voice] What a country!

I’m reading this fantastic piece by Jonathon Sturgeon in Harper’s. I now have a fair amount of experience with Louisville. He captures many of its stunning nuances. Nowhere has felt closer to slavery to me. Not richmond (which was the leader until now). Not MS. harpers.org/archive/2025...

Wow. The 1984 to 2024 flip is stark. Rich whites voted for Reagan in the 80s and Biden in the 20s. The parties have shifted. Excellent data visualization.

I am going to just post this in response to the “Do something!” morons.
