Very insightful! I have suspected that for most people the immigration was not a material issue, but I had not thought as incisively as "An alternative way of thinking about why immigration made its way onto the national agenda and stayed there is that it’s a very easy issue to manipulate."

One Rep + some Senators not casting protest votes does not make a pattern of "most of the party." I agree on the nominations and have expressed the same to my Dem Senators, but it's not even most Senators.

"Elected Democrats"??? The article describes one elected Democrat, a person without a leadership position, pushing a terrible idea against much several Democrats with more clout: Sanders, AOC, Warren, and the most recent VP Nominee who said "“How great is it that that dipshit Elon Musk is out?”
