Lefty techie generalist living in Tucson after aging out of Silicon Valley.
Heavily dependent on a functioning health care system. Ally to those the right would discriminate against.
I do astrophotography and other nerd stuff for fun.

BTW, the authoritarians will say it's elitism. Their world allows lying when it suits the cause.

It depends who you ask. Authoritarians hate expertise because it's disobedient. Their minions suck up the elitism argument coming from their thought leaders.

He's entirely right for the Right's mission to burn it all down. You have to remember that these people hate expertise.

Sometimes I worry that people won't get remarks that require more than a minimum of general knowledge.

How long before "government scientist" comes to mean "scientist with any government funding?" It's might become a moot point.

I'm really impressed by the detail in the "ground" level mist. I won't be surprised if the "boring" parts have surprises.

A lot of smart people think that logic and data are convincing. Many also have an overly hopeful impression of how well informed regular people want to be.

I know that look. I have a friend with an IQ in the 60-70 range who sometimes looks like that after hearing something complicated, or if everyone else is laughing at a joke he can't get. Unlike certain orange entities, this guy has no pretensions of genius. Also differently, he has a good heart.

Nothing like having the rug pulled early in your career. In the private sector, externalities and allowed for with a CV with holes in it.
