Fun to be on with @herculezg.bsky.social as always. Really good convo on Santi Gimenez, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan.

Brb, having nightmares about de-aged Jimmy Johnson

Holy uncanny valley, Jimmy Johnson.

Mark Andrews. Yikes.

Lions had horrific injury luck, yes — but tonight, Jared Goff turned into the Jared Goff Sean McVay didn’t want.

Refs not calling hip drop tackles today, I guess?

Neymar is one of football’s greats, a Brazilian legend and a generational talent. But a move to MLS would be a failed signing for the league. ⬇️⬇️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/606...

Sam Darnold is costing himself millions of dollars with each play tonight.

James Rodriguez to Liga MX 🚨 The emergence of MLS and other markets around the world (China, Saudi Lg, Qatar) over the last 25 years have curbed Liga MX’s capacity to pull household names from Europe, but man… James stands out as someone who anyone would’ve loved to sign. León from the top rope.

Houston was a home dog, with two of their top three offensive playmakers on IR, seemingly propped up by most media members to lose… and yet here we are. What a job by DeMeco Ryans.

Justin Herbert is 1-of-10 for 17 yards vs. pressure today.

César Huerta (hopefully) represents the new wave of younger Mexican players choosing to go abroad again after the lest five years or so have been disappointing in that regard for El Tri.

Rumored for quite some time but now official: Mexican international Cesar Huerta has left Pumas and signed a five-year contract with Anderlecht. The winger is the first-ever Mexican signing for the club. www.rsca.be/en/Cesar-Hue...

Jeanty’s going to be a fifth-round steal in the draft.

I don’t want to hear any NBA bashing over here.

Renewed interest from La Liga and Serie A clubs for Pumas, Mexico star Cesar Huerta this winter could mean a new #MexicanAbroad as early as January.

Club America are once again the kings of Liga MX. Much of that is due to Andre Jardine, an unexpected coaching hire that has now made history with three consecutive league titles. www.espn.com/soccer/story...

Man, I wish I got 765 million for the “chance to be really good” at a crucial part of my job.

If you’re a Chivas Fan, in the past 3 years, you’ve just witnessed your two biggest rivals win historic trophies: Atlas, a back-to-back championship, and America, a three-peat. You also lost a final, up 2-0 with 20 minutes to go in your first final in seven years.

Arriola phrased this as a response to the desire of “teams and fans” in Mexico. That’s a stretch. Most fans (and teams!) in Mexico don’t want Leagues Cup to continue at all.

A new development in the Leagues Cup saga as Liga MX president Mikel Arriola confirms midweek matches instead of month-long Summer pause. Sources add Liga MX teams pushed for this change. www.espn.com/soccer/story...

Crazy to think the amount of fans in the stadium for tonight’s Liga MX final is nearly equal to tue amount of folks who watched MLS Cup on Apple.

6 goals and 1 assist in the first 5 games back for Santi Gimenez since his return from injury. Good news for El Tri near the end of 2024.

According to Nielsen, MLS Cup drew 714k total viewers across Apple and Fox. Last spring, Liga MX’s Apertura final second leg drew 2.1 million alone.

I feel like an old man when I complain about not being able to see some of these #NBACup courts clearly. But it’s true.

Pachuca, an extremely mid team that hasn’t played a competitive match in a month beating the Copa Libertadores (and Brazilian league!) champ will never not be hilarious. Put Liga MX back in the Copa Libertadores, you cowards.

Today is the (terribly opaque) end of World Cup bidding as we know it. Quick 🧵, starting with a piece on how we got here: sports.yahoo.com/saudi-arabia...

Hoping @minakimes.bsky.social can work in a Lucille Botzcowski reference into the game tonight.

It’s a special type of Chargering when you can’t even win it off a ball hitting the goal post.

The only reason I’d ever want an MLS/Liga MX true hybrid league is because I just watched MLS Cup and honestly think neither of these teams would finished above seventh in Mexico and I wish to be proven wrong.

Jayden Reed starting on my fantasy team tonight ☠️

What does this mean for Liga MX? Among other things, pro/rel is now a thing of the past, as the deal will likely not include any clause suspending payments to teams who fall out of the first division. The deals will be done with owners of teams, not with the league itself.
