My hubby regularly ’runs into’ these people at round-abouts by UBC- where he has the right of way by being in the round-he stops in front of the car if they catch him on a bad day. (I keep asking him to avoid it on his route)

I am doing teaching observations for my 17 graduating teachers and had to move them to zoom due to all the cancellations. Its a mess (but at least its not measles)

Oh yeah, I am pushing my teacher spouse to mask- we both got it bad in December and again in February because of him. Feel better.

Your title reminds me of the seminal article I use often: Festinger, L., & Carlsmith, J. M. (1959). Cognitive consequences of forced compliance. The Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology, 58(2), 203. Along with other works by Festinger.

Depending on where one grew up and was educated. In countries where students do not choose their classes -but are mandatory per policy- they are likely to have learned more. I had years of mandatory world history, wold lit, physics, geography, chemistry, etc. in k-12

Origin of quote is from Summerhill policies Book: A.S. Neill (1960) Summerhill: A radical approach to child rearing 3/3

“The function of a child is to live (their) own life, not the life that (their) anxious parents think (they) should live, nor a life according to the purpose of the educators who thinks they knows best" A.S. Neill (Summerhill, 2016) 🧵2/3 I swapped she/he to they/their #SelfSetermination #SDLMI

A blind person w CP was left behind and died. The story of the 92 yrs old in the Palisades who was left behind by a carer (and an ACTOR his neighbour went back to save him) made me so freaking angry. But yeah- the rich and privileged. I am so mad. 4/4 #Disability #Accessibility #HumansMatter

Elevators are the first to stop in fires,so ho do people with mobility disabilities and wheelchair get out? Molly Burke, blind influencer got out simply because she had her sighted partner home (see her tearful video on IG). 🧵3/4 #Disability #Accessibility #HumansMatter

BUT, the fire destroyed an amputee father in Altadena who stayed with his son with CP while they waited for help to arrive. The disabled community is often/always left behind in disasters if they are not ambulatory or do not have support on hand. 🧵 2/4 #Disability #Accessibility #HumansMatter

Severe light sensitivity due to visual impairment or neurodivergence. Fluorescent light in gyms can be down right painful trigger migraines and seizures.

The first time i picked up COVID was in 2023 at an airport, i removed my mask for a while as it was a long layover and not in a tin can, not again. And I am boosted. Now as to getting sick: at every school break. The drop in adrenaline tells my body its time.

I individually wrap them into plastic wrap then into a ziploc- then freezer. (I once made the mistake of dumping them all in a ziploc never to be able to retrieve 1) then use as needed when needed. Or make another banana bread and freeze that sliced…

Again, not to shame, but changing one’s vernicular when one is active in public and social media helps reduce ableism by not perpetuating it. And those of us working in the field, (and often live w. disabilities) should be examples of learning and honoring those we serve. So yeah- how?!4/4 #EduSky

Many states and provinces moved away from the use of special education (heck, the US federal law from 1997 & 2004 is ‘Individuals with Disabilities Education Act’ yet the federal -and most state- office over seeing implementation is ‘Office of Special Education’ make it make sense). 🧵3/4 #Edusky
