An immunocompromised relative recently had to have a procedure that needed to be unmasked. A week later they had pneumonia, and after that followed complications from treating the pneumonia. 🤬 Only now slowly recovering.

This apology is stomach-churning on multiple levels. It’s basically an f-u to her constituents. Wow.

I guess that explains the months of (none) listed under the Funding Opportunities section of the weekly NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts email.

This is so painful. I knew we were in trouble, but this is so much worse than expected.

Hi ZoĆ«! I’m just about to field a nationwide survey to gain better understanding of the ethical, legal, and social consequences of epigenetics research. It’s so exciting! I also just ordered the book How We Learn to Be Brave for my ā€œHope and Changeā€ book club 😊

Not sure. I know it went down one weekend along with all the other NIH websites (including Commons, which almost gave me a heart attack bc I was trying to review grants), but I haven’t had reason to do a full search recently. That’s too bad. Have you seen this possible alternative? europepmc.org

PubMed’s incredible usefulness is probably what would make it be a target. But they wouldn’t have to take it down to destroy it. Just screw up the search algorithm, and exclude certain topics/journals/papers from search results. šŸ˜”

They talk about ā€œallowingā€ people to apply for a new award like it’s a favor, as though HHS didn’t pull the rug out from under them when they were already on their way to a successful career. And no mention of the competitiveness of these awards, or if there will be sufficient funding for everyone 🤬

I have a 76-yr old family member who is convinced that no one over age 70 should be allowed to serve in political office because lawmakers need to be ā€œwith itā€ cognitively and need to understand the needs of the modern world and the younger generations.
