Highly recommend some outdoor time as we head into spring… And if it happens to be near a Tesla showroom, all the better.

Here is the Friday night executive order on Public Service Loan Forgiveness, which directs ED to make changes (with Treasury) to the list of eligible organizations.

New: The administration—through DOJ, HHS, ED, and GSA—says it has canceled ~$400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University.

NEW: McMahon says on Fox and Friends this morning that Trump "certainly intends" to sign an executive order dismantling the Education Department.

Extraordinarily proud to be part of the Georgetown University community today.

Congratulations to @tvparrot.bsky.social and @karafreeman-nacubo.bsky.social on their inclusion in the @diverseissues.bsky.social list of 40 women shattering glass ceilings in #highered! Read about each of them below.

Rowan University is making changes to DEI in response to President Trump’s policy changes. Rowan said in an email to the campus that its Division of Inclusive Excellence, Community & Belonging will no longer exist as a division. 🔗 inquirer.com/education/ro...

Oh, the joy of Jason Isbell's new album arriving on my doorstep in all its vinyl glory two days before the official drop... Been lucky enough to hear several of the songs live and so far, Gravelweed is my favorite track.

If you work in higher ed and haven't had a pay raise in many years, I'd love to talk to you for a story. Please reach out here or [email protected] Thank you! 🙏

Historically Black colleges and universities have provided infrastructure for voting rights advancement for decades. But now, under the threat of unreliable funding and new executive orders, their future is in question.

Remember that it's only a State of the Union address if it comes in the second, third or fourth year of a presidential term. Otherwise, it's just sparkling address to a joint session of Congress.

The last line gives this real “passive aggressive sign in the break room” energy.

I don’t understand #highered association heads putting out the same old “we look forward to working with Sec. McMahon” statements this morning in light of this email to ED staff last night. Some nuance might be called for, you know?

SCOOP: Now that Linda McMahon is confirmed/sworn in as secretary, Trump will be imminently issuing an executive order eliminating the Department of Education. I’ve obtained a draft of an email that McMahon will be sending to staff re: the EO and the department’s “final mission”. Here is a portion:

Love how easy @5calls.org makes it to reach out to my senators between Zoom calls and ask them to oppose S.9. Keep dialing, friends...

Higher ed is bracing for the impact of the NIH funding cuts, but much remains unknown. @tvparrot.bsky.social and @erinahennessy.bsky.social discuss how we got here, the effect of the cuts, how to talk about them with key audiences, and they answer questions about future domino effects.

"Efforts to build inclusive and diverse campus communities are neither discriminatory nor illegal." Bravo to @aceducation.bsky.social and 68 higher ed associations for this muscular, powerful, unified response to the Ed Dept "Dear Colleague" letter. www.acenet.edu/Documents/Le...

NEW: Two Philly-area lawmakers walked out of a meeting with the @upenn.edu president on Tuesday after they say a university administrator referred to diversity as a “lightning rod.” One state senator called the meeting “bullshit.” @whyy.org whyy.org/articles/pen...

About last night: Probably the best Jason Isbell performance I’ve seen, and I’ve seen about a dozen.

The Story Lab, a quintessential @universityofiowa.bsky.social program, enables @tippieiowa.bsky.social students to write their own narratives through a story-framing approach. In this article by @nickwestergaard.com for AACSB, storytelling turns a new and creative page for business students.

Remember early in the pandemic when people opened their windows at a certain time every day to cheer and applaud for frontline medical staff? Hear me out -- what if we brought that back, but it was just primal screams and profanity? Who's in?

New Trusted Voices ep from me and @tvparrot.bsky.social! Thanks for listening.

Art Coleman of ED Counsel via @insidehighered.com: “The threats to the remaining facets of DEI that this administration doesn’t like, that’s where I think we’ve got a really strong guardrail. But a guardrail is only as good as the people willing to stand behind it and fight.”

FSA said in an electronic announcement today that the FAFSA was updated last week to only include the "male" & "female" gender ID markers. We already knew the nonbinary option was going away, but now it seems the "prefer not to answer" marker is gone, too. fsapartners.ed.gov/knowledge-ce...

Who else was today years old when they learned platypuses sting? 🤯

So grateful for faculty expertise that helps make sense of the current moment.

I'm always going to be an introvert so I'm always going to end business trips longing for some quiet alone time, but this week's trip to DC was a powerful reminder of how much I love our #highered work and community. So many good hugs, so many good chats.

Trump’s pick to lead the Education Department, Linda McMahon, will appear today before a key Senate committee to kick of the confirmation process. We’ll be giving you live updates from The Hill here starting at 9:15. You can follow along here >> www.insidehighered.com/news/governm... #highered

Honey, I’m hoooome!

This is a really important thread and should be part of conversations happening at #highered meetings in DC in the coming weeks...

BREAKING: Federal judge in Boston broadens block on Trump's NIH grant 15% overhead limit (indirect cost rates) to all recipients nationwide. Doc: www.documentcloud.org/documents/25... #TROpalooza ain't done

Massachusetts is home to universities and research institutions that lead our country in saving lives and creating jobs. Trump's NIH cuts put them at risk. We won't allow this Administration to play politics with our public health or undermine our economy. We're suing.
