No game gives me headaches like Civ 7. It's like, cumulative eyestrain? I'm always trying to discern things on the map or constantly refocusing on different things, idunno. Never had that problem with Civ 6 or ONI.

I feel like Amazon got the creative rights to James Bond because the prior owners watched this video and realized the public domain clock is ticking on it anyway. Might as well cash out while you can. youtu.be/nLeL1JOajfY

If George Soros held an Oval Office press conference explaining his plans for the Biden administration and then the State Department awarded a nine figure contract to the Open Society Foundations then Washington D.C. would’ve consisted of mostly ash and blood within 72 hours.

Remember, Google Maps are country specific In Pakistan it shows Kashmir as Pakistani, in India as Indian And in America it shows Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of America, but not elsewhere In fact in México it shows as “Gulfo del Idiota”

The attacks on federal govt programs mirror attacks on vaccines: opponents see as harmful the very things that provide their comfort of ignorance.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce. Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

Remember, no matter what some government run by a fascist says - you are who you say you are. You define yourself. No one else. The state & powerful try to dictate our bodies to control & exploit us - our labor, our energy, our lives - for themselves. But you get to choose yourself. Fuck ‘em.

I wrote something up about how special it was to experience the Severance popup at Grand Central. What appeared to be an elaborate art installation quickly turned into one of the coolest performances in recent memory. It was also a reminder that Apple succeeds when they focus on people.

Ever see candid videos of high schoolers in the '80s? They all look so old! They should be at work, with those clothes and that hair. Kids today? All way too young for high school. But us, we were the right age, and still are at 40+. Feels like we've just left home but Mom should still be there. ♥️

this is so good. this is so so so good. i'm running around my office screaming the lev manovich quote about how software is ideology

ONE MONTH TO CIV

My Windows drive died yesterday. That meant no Oxygen Not Included today! Boo! On a whim, I tried installing it via Steam on Ubuntu. Works great! Why do I need Windows again?

So far this year I feel like I'm learning a lot of truths (about people, politics, about how to behave at work, about what I know and don't know) and it feels very enlightening... Until I forget most of it, and then relearn some of it days later. I gotta take notes. Like Marcus Aurelius.

Should I be proud or ashamed that I could immediately tell that's Data from some alternate universe? (Probably from the Parallels episode.)

My remedies for waking up with a headache: - Shower - Caffeine - Eat something - Noise-cancelling headphones Today's addition: - Chewing gum(!) How to avoid morning headaches: - Stop playing video games after midnight, you idiot - Get to bed - Once in bed, put the damn phone down

Also since the election I'm completely disgusted and burned out on political news. I've cut back on that part of my media diet a lot since then. Embracing ignorance for a while to preserve my sanity, avoiding pointless persistent frustration against things I cannot change.

So I'm pretty comfortable classifying all Republicans as "selfish." I think that one word probably encompasses their worldview. Their actions serve themselves and promote whatever they're personally accustomed to. I can't land on one word for Democrats tho: "feckless" or "complicit"?

Happy New Year

I finally made some Bluesky bots announcing Blizzard version updates. I did it mostly just for practice and to get my feet wet with atproto. I spun up a separate PDS server and everything. TBH, all the frog icons are what made it worth doing. 🐸 bsky.app/profile/did:...

I now wanna make my own @algalon.ghst.tools

Feeling like I gotta get in my big purchases today before next year's tariffs. Sucks. Like, do I wanna swap my gas dryer for a heat pump dryer? Yeah, someday. Can I easily afford that this season? Ehhh...

There's a lot you can say, and a lot has been said, about Mastodon and its limitations: its UX, the social norms of its userbase, the contradictions of how a large server is a better experience but goes against decentralization. But rarely do I see it mentioned that the tech just does. not. scale.

This dude's living my nerd dream right now: writes some third-party software that does one neat super-useful thing with Bluesky, and gets Hank's attention for it.

This needs to be said, loud, and often.

This is one of those videos that you could work on forever, but suddenly it felt very important to make it, so I finally did: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8Pn...
