Our new dog came from a blacksmith. As soon as we got home he made a bolt for the door.

“Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company?” -Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960), US author, anthropologist, filmmaker #WomensArt

Tackling hunger & hardship must be at the heart of the government's coming child poverty strategy. 😲c 2/3 (63%) @TrussellUK emergency food parcels go to families with children. 😲1/4 children aged 0-4 face hunger & hardship – higher than for any other age group.

I’m making my own list of text abbreviations (or initialisms) for more middle-aged, British people, like me. This is what I have so far. Hopefully they’ll catch on. Let me know what you’d add.

Breaking - Hamas says it will release bodies of four hostages, including Bibas children, on Thursday and six living hostages on Saturday www.cnn.com/2025/02/18/m...

granting the premise of this, how would you know what questions to ask?

The typical low-to-middle income household is no longer a couple with children. There are now more single-adult households, and multi-family households (such as house shares or adult children living with parents). Read more: https://buff.ly/4gE0beF

"Anti-migrant politics will not build a single house, staff a single hospital or raise anyone’s wages. Instead, by echoing its rhetoric, the government is simply fuelling the rise of Reform UK" Well done to these Labour MPs, trade unionists, and members. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

If you feel the same, you are not alone. Now is the time to organise for the next #GE. Perhaps consider a coalition of acrual pro EU parties from all national parties with @libdems.org.uk and @greenparty.org.uk... I am struggling to see how that could have been worse than broken election pledges.

Liz Kendall’s comments are deeply troubling and harmful to those relying on benefits! It's crucial that our leaders show empathy and understanding, and work towards creating a supportive system that helps people get back on their feet, not one that further marginalises them.

At NPFB, we believe that a cash-first approach is one that gives people the freedom, dignity, and stability they need to thrive. By supporting individuals with direct financial assistance, we empower them to make choices that are right for their unique circumstances. 🤝

Really looking forward to this event with Profs Mat Paterson (@matpaterson.bsky.social), Jen Bagelman @bagelwoman.bsky.social), Mark Whitehead & Dr Danielle Young (@notesnthemargin.bsky.social). Feel like it's going to be a rich conversation on climate science, politics, power + a few giggles :-)

Andrew Gwynne was one of the very few MPs I've always trusted, seeing his care for his toddler grandson, his candour about his depressions, his apparent kindness towards older people struggling in poverty. That he was in fact promoting hate narratives makes me feel bleak as hell. Who's left who's ok?

Is this real?? Sckening - serving up people’s suffering to appease the populist Right. When will Labour learn you can’t out-Reform Reform? Instead, offer a far bolder agenda of green investment in local communities, public services in public hands, wealth taxes on super-rich, & a bit of hope FFS

STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BY LAWYERS FOR THE BRITISH HOSTAGE FAMILIES 7 February 2025

In movies, a superhero arrives around now. In the absence of that happening, I am willing to coordinate a global army of middle aged women to sort everything out. We have a lot of rage. And also combat trousers from the 90s.
