I’m sorry, you need to contextualize your comment, otherwise it’s hard to tell if you’re mad at media’s perception of immigrants or this man’s statement.
Beautiful!! Well said! In the coming decades, Western European countries will be begging young people to come over and work to compensate for the ageing population
The right wing propaganda is the same in all western countries. People come to these countries because they're looking for better lives. Why is that such a threat to residents of these countries. We should be grateful for what we have and be willing to let others share in that wealth.
One thing I learned from LBC’s James O’Brien (not a fan) is that people can only tell a difference in other people based most primarily on race. Because imagine you’re in a small town with 1million ple all the same colour, without interaction; you’d assume it’s overpopulated not full of immigrants.
Advocating for open borders, as you're advocating, is a non-starter. The very concept of a nation state includes borders.
Sadistic right wing propaganda is a given but no nation can allow a proportionately large number of immigrants to enter in a very short period of time - without backlash.
I'm not suggesting open borders. Of course, there needs to be immigration laws and regulations. The right and some of the left seem to think immigrants are the enemy. Most are normal people looking to better their lives. Canada and the US are mostly built upon immigrants looking to start anew.
Someone saying it as it should be, not what the gutter press wants you to believe. Terminology is sometimes legal jargon that a lot of people do not understand and their ignorance shows.
@davidolusoga.bsky.social should be educating the public, he puts it over in a way so you do understand.
‘We welcome migrants, we don't scapegoat them. Low wages, poor housing, poor public services, are not the fault of migrants, or people who have come here, they are political failure. Political failure.’ Keir Starmer 2020.
He was right then, now he's pandering to the supporters of Farage and Braverman et al, who just point the finger at 'others' and stir up hatred as a means of getting votes.
It is the fault of a compliant media who allow their hatred to go unchallenged.
Same with the EU to a point.
We were happy to have cheaper workers and an open market place until we needed to blame something for the mistakes or out own domestic politicians.
This demonisation of asylum seekers and refugees can sit at the feet of John Winston Howard, no one else and now faithfully prosecuted by the Thug.

Calling asylum seekers 'illegal' for showing up in your country is like wanting to shoot people trying to ring your doorbell because they're 'trespassing'. What are they supposed to do, stand at the border of their own country and shout loudly while hoping not to get shot by soldiers?
GREAT MAN.
I wonder why no politician talks like him? It is so weired.
Facts are on his side.
Humanity is on his side.
Love is on his side.
Law is on his side.
History is on his side.
My personal heroe 😍!
THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏🏻🫶
My guess is people w/integrity don’t run for office. Those that do may be frustrated to find oligarchs are tilting the table.
We’d have to organize an army of people with integrity to run for office from top to bottom to effectively defeat the worldwide hoarders of resources/wealth. It can be done.
The people who control the press be like 'But if we didn't do that, people might start to realise it's plastic patriots extracting as much as they can out of the UK (in to tax havens) that are a significant problem and we simply can't have the penny dropping'
Quite.
As uncomfortable as it may feel, if Labour can show the press / public that the system works under them, as far as processing migrants goes, whether that leads to deporting or accepting, then the main pillar of the Right's argument collapses.
And the Right have nothing else..
Refreshing too to hear a good point made well , supported, as you say by facts but not beating their drum loudly for personal gain or advancement.. a la Farage, Truss, Johnson , Trump , Musk
He is quite correct in what he says. We do dehumanise others so we can point the finger and blame them for our own unwillingness to tackle the problems our Societies face internally. A lot of which boils down to the fact the privileged rich are unwilling to pay their fair share of tax to Society.
Yet, still Labour continues on the same path as the Tories in a vain attempt to compete with the fascists of Reform. Breaking news: That’s not working. You are still floundering in the polls. Wake up and listen to men like this instead of the Right-wing Press.
It's so daft - if people want far-right shittery then they'll go for the brand that provides it with conviction, rather than the proven BS of Lab and Cons.
An unbeatable majority to push for real change - to voting and democracy, health and inequality, environment and industry - totally wasted.
Bravo - brilliant intervention. I had to stop watching this TV program some years ago because of the hateful nodding dogs they filled the audience with, cheering on cruelty and inhumanity and prejudice. Good to see the occasional human being get past the producers? 👏🏻
100% agree. I had to stop watching years ago for all the same reasons.
Very refreshing to hear a well-educated (Thatcher's housing policy) & articulate young person calling out the MSM on asylum & refugees.
We must find him and thank him. We must lift up MORE voices like his that speak truth to power. We outnumber the hateful, we are stronger together, and we hold the power to shift the tide on a global scale.
Yep, and we've more than enough empty property to house everyone but choose not to because property investors would sooner sit on empty property because it drives rent up and resale values up. They're like DeBeers with diamonds, for housing, throttling the availability.
I'm not sure I'm even in favour of that. See, in China, when you own the land your house is on, you own it for good, no taxes to pay, its yours, and ownership of land is freedom - means you can grow food & just be your own person. I think that's a good way to be.
cut to: Jimmy Hamel or James Baldwin or JD Vance whatever his name really is, fear mongering at the Munich Conference about immigrants trying to get every Country on the mass deportation agenda
This bloke embodies what the real talk on the street is. I don't hear most people railing about immigration and blaming them for our problems. Most point the finger at Thatcher and many of us have the receipts and the experience that it is.
Farage talks about 600,000 illegal immigrants in London and makes it sound like they all came in small boats! If there are these numbers they are likely to be overstayers! Did no-one tell them to go? Did no-one enforce them to go?
He does that for the fearmongering, it's all about the projection that in some way, things are being taken from us. He never seems to mention that if that was the case and sources of income are scarce for newcomers, how do these people supposedly "snatch houses"? Easily dispelled.
My daughter has to check, before she employs people, that they have the right to be here. Does that mean these people are working in the 'gig' economy, without workers rights? If so that would explain why the tories made no attempt to remove them cheap labour, depressed wages, higher profits!
That's an unfortunate feature of our system, yes. Since we have this hostile environment, employers often in sectors like construction rely on gig economy recruitment and exploit lower wages, those workers have no protections and are less likely to complain because of what happens. It's terrible.
Without immigration it would have a really bad effect on the economy, which is something the RW doesn't appear to understand. Ofcourse they'd be happy enough to have absolutely everyone doing maximum effort for peanuts though. Which is why these loopholes exist, for exploitation.
It is illegal in British Law I think because the last government passed a law making it so! Not illegal in International Law though. As a Labour member I despair that the government are as bad as the Tories with their anti immigration rhetoric!
What confuses me is none of these right wing politicians have ever gotten the people living in poverty out of poverty??? So weird how it’s so easily to brainwash people without actually helping them
Most of the ills of today’s society can be traced back to thatcher so I’m glad this eloquent young man mentioned her. We need more people like him in this country who can think for themselves & ignore the empty rhetoric of the likes of farage & the ultra right wing Tories
For all his flaws (and he had many) Johnsons rhetoric re refugees and immigrants was far less fashy than Starmers currently is. Live in today when we have a so called "centre left" government pandering to the bigots.
I’m no fan of Starmer or his CoX whose name escapes me, they’re imposters giving us effectively a continuation of the Tories when what people voted for was the complete opposite. They’ve conned us all but unfortunately with the current voting system there’s little chance of anything changing
He really shut down those anti immigrant racist by saying that since Margaret Thatcher to today, the UK only built 250,000 houses but from WWII until Thatcher they built 5 million homes
Labour running scared and swerving hard to the right. The echos of Trump's roundup is chilling. Kier Stamer should be ashamed. Bravo to this man for calling it out so clearly.
Don't give it a second thought. It will not happen here. Apparently, this country believes in tax cuts for the uber rich and nothing for our poorest citizens nor those who seek refuge from war torn countries. End of story. Forget the poem on the Statue of Liberty.
Maybe if y'all didn't fuck yourselves over with Brexit and Trumpian policies to destroy the government so the very rich get richer you could afford to house everyone.
Prison, detention centers and deportation is really expensive too. It’s way better to build affordable housing, give people jobs and allow them to be productive members of our society.
I don't watch @bbcqt because of their bias towards the right, but this young man is definitely worth watching for his excellent articulation of the truth... that those being scapegoated are refugees and asylum seekers.
True there were bell ends in the audience but tbf decent people also manage to get a hearing on the program most week. Its a mystery why GB news gets airtime on the BBC but one of the BBC management is also involved with GB news.
Liked this guy. Knew his stuff and backed it up with stats. Not so Goodwin. He blocked me on X for calling him a hypocrite ( which he is) for berating the "elites" but then kowtowing to them to get his ( v boring) book published ...
Thatcher’s corrupt government enabled a lot of despicable behaviour and acts of greed that have caused unbelievable damage to the societal fabric of the UK over the years. A lot of what we see now is as a direct result of those individuals who acted in despicable ways, in order to enrich themselves.
This type of sub contracting, where employees get part paid by tickets issued, and the firms the same, produces an anxiety led society. As well this type of "policing" of people is loaded against the less well off, as "justice" is now reserved for the well off
Like in America who are not demonising, blaming, hunting down, interning or mass deportation any of the 600,000 white undocumented immigrants - just the brown ones . The UK has thousands of white undocumented 'illegal' immigrants, but they're never talked about , targeted or blamed for anything.
Not anymore anyway. However, like several others are pointing out, it's not actually about race or color. It's about wealthy people who want to accumulate even more wealth having someone to blame. Putting the blame on brown people keeps them in power and money.
As an Indigenous woman, I won't reduce their racism. I just understand, wealthy people are using the racism of our poor and middle class population against them in order to further their own financial interests.
You’re right. That is what they’re doing which sadly (because of racism) created poverty for people of color. It’s all been very intentional to control and oppress. Shameful. Horrific. Some whites have been sacrificed on their altar of greed- yes- collateral damage. Their focus is racist most of all
He was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise rancid atmosphere. #bbcqt
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social did his best but the audience (this chap aside) seemed completely brainwashed by the Reform (all style, no substance) rhetoric. This fella restored my faith in humanity, so Morning & thank you!
This rings true for the U.S too. Majority of Americans never leave the states - never travel abroad. They are very naive in understanding what living poor is truly like. The Americans will say the immigrants are stealing job and services. But they are so wrong. These immigrants build homes and farm.
It is in parallel with the maga movement here in the USA. They don't want anyone but white nationalist Christians in America. So they call them all 'illegal' and dehumanize them to justify in their own warped minds that it's okay to imprison them in concentration camps.
I’m not even sure if those at the very top are concerned with colour at all. Minorities are just an easy scapegoat upon whom to lay the blame for the ills of society, caused by the rank greed of those who profit from the labour of the majority, and seek to control the masses so as to exploit them.
When India Willoughby was on QT and they set her up with a far right transphobe and Fiona Bruce cheered on when India was blatantly monstered I didn't see anyone speak up.
Trans people were the first target of Trump on day one. Again, silence.
I don't have a TV and never watch QT, I can't comment on that. But we need to speak up for everyone, to quote Maya Angelou: "Because equal rights, fair play, justice, are all like the air: we all have it, or none of us has it."
I know the feeling, I have been an activist on different issues and I get annoyed when people are only interested when it affects them. I might be stupid but I strongly believe that we need to fight for everyone. I am a feminist that includes ALL women in the struggle.
I really don’t get why this message isn’t more widely broadcast.
Rather than jumping on the bandwagon of illegal immigration is everything wrong in this country why can Labour not educate and inform the electorate?
Dont know how its in the Uk, but we have a similar discussion/situation here in Germany. And even if you tell this to people: they will not listen, they will not believe you, they refuse to. They wanna believe the solution to all they problems is "evil immigrants".
Because it also serves labour tories to have refugees as scapegoats while they decimate services. Worked for the tory tories, they’re just continuing the charge. No doubt their troughs will be overflowing.
It reflects a patronising view of the electorate. Sadly they fell for the lies promoted in 2016 and are not ready to disabuse themselves of that notion. FarageRiots played on that. Some were gullible enough to riot in the Summer. Education as a way forward is more than Labour can manage.
In opposition, this Labour backed the 'illegal migrants' lie, abstained from important votes (ceasefire, antiprotest, 'spy cops'), excluded the sick/disabled & let down trans people. They showed us who they were but many voted for them as the lesser of 2 evils.
In power that side of them is growing.
Because having people to blame who don’t have the power or voice to fight is useful when your economic policy that still favours wealth and landlordism isn’t fixing the structural problems in the economy.
I don't think they think they would have the chance to do that. If they are seen as anything but being hard on immigration the media will attack them.
How many reports have you seen about anything else they have done in the last 7 months ? The press give them absolutely no breathing space.
(Not verbatim)
He said that he's disgusted by the dehumanisation of refugees. They're not illegal immigrants. They have a legal right to flee from war. They're not to blame for a lack of housing. The fact is that less housing has been built post Thatcher than pre Thatcher.
I no longer watch BBCQT because of the lack of *balance*, always platforming Farage.
Sadly, the fourth estate is no longer impartial and is complicit by highlighting right wing opinions. Otherwise, the majority views, people who agree with this young man would be fairly and frequently represented.

Now we know what he thinks of Ivana and his own kids.
Impeach him! And ban Musk.
Misinformation ignorance and Brexitainment. They're working against us now.

Racism is a weakness of our nations for our own rights as well as those oppressed directly by it.

Not in a million years. Too corrupt
Exactly the sort of person governments hate, so they engineer a dumbing down of education and the media.
It's nice to see some that know the truth 👏
This 'illegal immigrants' tag really gets my goat...it is not illegal to arrive in a country by irregular means if you are a genuine asylum seeker.
ALL the mainstream media allow politicians to keep demonising 'illegals'. They are NOT.
It's shocking how people can have such little empathy for their fellow human beings.
It was a binary. As a UK citizen I was an *Alien*.
After 9/11 immigration became more welcoming. IIRC it was *US Citizens* and *Citizens of other nations*
The *aliens* were ditched.
