Spot on. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. It ‘s relatable, and humanizes the issue in a way everyone can understand.

anyway i’m begging anyone who writes for the NYRB, bookforum, the LRB, n+1 and other “highbrow” lit journals to review one of littlepuss’s books. we do a really good job with them! they are often unique in the field of contemporary letters!

is this really the world you want your children to live in, and your children’s children,

On the music of Brian Wilson—"ravishingly old-fashioned and bewilderingly avant-garde at the same time"—and the debt it owed to a big-band abridgement of "Rhapsody in Blue"

Go get 'em, Zohran.

Zohran the Destroyer! He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the destroyer came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!

I think immigration is one of those areas where a lot of people have an unreflective, shallowly-held barstool reaction ("yeah, sure, if they're not here legally they ought to go") that drops away pretty quick the second they have to confront the details of what's required to implement it.

No fictional character has ever deserved the punishment he received as much as the lemonade salesman from Duck Soup. He was guilty of the worst crimes of all: he couldn’t hang, and he wouldn’t join in bits.

There's a 6'4" goth Australian professional women's basketball player if you were looking for good things going on in the world

"The problem with the polling and all the emphasis on data in contemporary politics is that it does not take into account that the electorate doesn’t really exist until election day, and the politician and his or her campaign are actively creating that electorate."

At WBUR this week I wrote about the Somerville Theatre’s 70mm and Widescreen Festival, which runs Thursday 6/26 through Monday 6/30. See you there.

Finally, a sequel to “Wet Hot American Summer” that everyone can enjoy.

Essay: WITHNAIL AND I - The Song Remains the Same Last night, I accidentally wrote a short essay about Richard E. Grant doing Hamlet in the rain, running out of road, my best friend Amy I lost after college, & Bruce Robinson's WITHNAIL AND I. I'd be honored if you gave it a read. bit.ly/4jNzKVy

Also, be a sincere, engaging, positive person. You know, actually likeable.

The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.

“I want to question what the outside is and who defines it. I often find those that are considered to be on the outside extremely inspiring. They are the people who see through the double standards…” -Mira Nair #Zohran

Left side Cuomo hq (the signs were taken down while the reporter was speaking), right side Mamdani hq

think it’s meaningful and overlooked that zohran’s senior political advisor worked on the osborn, gallego, and lucy mcbath campaigns

I can't emphasize enough how ugly and pervasive and persistent the "Mamdani hates Jews" campaign was. I'm happy that so many Jews stood strong against that vileness. Maybe people will start to understand that we've had it with being treated as a paranoid, easily manipulated single-issue bloc.

Hope and solidarity won tonight, and will win again in November. Congratulations, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social

A brand new episode of The BW/DR Podcast is here! We had an absolute blast of a time talking with the always insightful @mitchellbeaupre.bsky.social about one of their favorite films: Mira Nair's MISSISSIPPI MASALA. podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bri...

One of my besties is struggling with a medical emergency for his beloved feline familiar, any help you can give him financially - no matter how small - will be enormously appreciated!

I’m just watching this from LA like

do you want to see something so so beautiful

Girl Mode is now endorsing Zohran Mamdani

For the last six months, I have been profiling a trans girl in Washington who runs track. She was heartbroken when Gavin Newsom called trans girls' participation in California "deeply unfair." Last month, she won 1st place in the Washington girls 400M and 10,000 people booed her. But ...

I saw Matador on a date. During the screening I kept thinking, this was a terrible choice, I'm going to apologize as soon as the movie is over. When the lights went up my date said, "Good film. Want to get a drink?"

I’m going to make a thread about how the feds have changed their tactics here in Los Angeles because the community has forced them to adapt.

In spite of its owner, I must say the LA Times is meeting the moment with wall-to-wall coverage of ICE kidnappings and so many stories about how immigrants are the backbone of everything great about LA. Its staff has a much clearer view of the city than the New York Times does of NYC.

This is incredibly beautiful storytelling.

AOC: Being taken is wrong, it is illegal, it is a violation of his First Amendment rights, it is an affront to every American, and we will not allow—and will continue to resist—the politicization and the continued political persecution that ICE is engaged in.

Jaws is 50, meaning the shark tells its victims that music used to be better before it kills them.

BREAKING: Mahmoud Khalil speaks out after being released from ICE detention. "The Trump administration are doing their best to dehumanize everyone here," Khalil said.

The thing about the Khalil case is that it's very very good that he's free now but you can't have it take three months between "the government kidnaps you off the street for no basis reason whatsoever" and "a judge makes them let you go." You just can't.

There is now a place next to the IFC Center called Anime Claw which is just a bunch of claw machines some of which contain Labubus
