It really shouldn't... australiainstitute.org.au/post/it-shou...

Just put in a request for another niche inter library loan at my fantastic university library (MQ Waranara: www.mq.edu.au/about/facili...), whilst using my local council library for work today. Libraries are public good manifest (sad because I can't @ my MQlibrary like I could on X)

musk ruined twitter as a public utility so that he could degrade and void knowledge networks of all kinds. this is a great time to be really abundant in your use of social media for good. write your threads, share what you know, amplify your community. make this place a resource.

australiainstitute.org.au/post/uni-vic... "It’s time for a fairer deal for people who do the bulk of the work at universities, such as teaching and researching, and a reduction in the exorbitant salaries of senior management who let these labour conditions continue"

“The PhD stipend is $33,511 … well below minimum wage of $47,627” “Universities can raise the stipend to a maximum of $52,352, but a ACGR survey found none have done so. The highest stipend is just over $40,000 … with the average at $34,244.” #RaiseTheStipend

"Government decisions reveal their priorities. For decades governments have decided to deprioritise a highly and diversely educated workforce while subsidising industries, such as fossil fuel mining, which actively harm the planet while employing few and paying limited taxes." shorturl.at/b5ist

Welp, yep that’s me

Closing off the year at MANTO with a Pompeii x MANTO data dump (doi.org/10.5281/zeno...) and a blog post summarising the data, how it was created, and how a project's aims shape its (fascinating) findings. Honesty, as always, is the best policy. Fun to work with @gretahawes.bsky.social on this.

Great second day at @tag45.bsky.social Fantastic session from @rachelcrellin.bsky.social @ojth.bsky.social and Julian Thomas looking at the work of Chris Tilley and the many directions we can take it. Here are a few of my favourites from Roy, @bromolloy.bsky.social, Galmés Alba, and Collar.

Given the current political reality and the expansion of attacks on science, it is time for scientists to be more effective, forceful, and vociferous as their own political advocates. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Welp, guess I wasn’t the first to think this… www.routledge.com/Assembling-P... knew I recognised this from somewhere @ojth.bsky.social God forbid I have an original thought 😅

tropaeum-ception? A fragment of what is thought to be a monumental Roman tropaeum ('trophy') depicting, well, another tropaeum This 1st century fragment is from Tilurium (Gardun Croatia), one of two legionary fortresses in Dalmatia. It is currently held in the Archaeological Museum in Split CC-BY

Trying to create a R script which captures inscriptions with 'military' key words in an epigraphic corpus. Turns out there are a lot of military terms *sigh* All this so that I can capture perhaps 1-10 more inscriptions than the last person? #digitalepigraphy #digitalarchaeology 🪦🏺

For my new followers, you can expect more of this, as well as stuff on digital archaeology, new materialist theory, and Roman stuff, as well as some Australian politics and classical reception 🏺

I'm still not 100% sure how a starter pack works, but to experiment I've created one for Digital Classicists –If you should be on it, let me know. If you shouldn't be on it, I'll remove you. –Convince me it's a bad idea, I'll delete the whole thing. A good idea, I can share it. go.bsky.app/3ZkX6k2
