At an exhibit opening at my library, an art teacher pointing out to her students in a whisper, how much people were enjoying and learning from their soil paintings of tree rings. And how they should be proud of that.

The “savings” that Elon is touting just aren’t. Anywhere. Near. What. He. Is. Claiming. (even setting the constitutional issues aside) And certainly nowhere near what they will need to make up for the corporate tax breaks they are promising. Full NBC report here: www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

4/5 “Per the agency’s online records, just 89,106 people — not tens of millions — over the age of 99 received retirement benefits in December 2024, out of the more than 70 million people who receive benefits each year.”

3/4 And yet my mum was almost certainly included in Musk’s spreadsheet data: “There are millions of people over the age of 100 in the Social Security Administration’s database, but the vast majority aren’t receiving benefits” —due to cost, records aren’t updated regularly.

2/4: Utter twaddle. And here’s how I know this personally: My mother, who turned 100 in early December 2023, died on 2/17/2024. By early Mar the social sec deposit ($725) that was deposited into her account in early February was clawed back by the Social Security Administratio; no more payments.

Good luck Mr Gendeblein. And thanks for stepping up to put a bit more integrity back into our Congress. This upstate/central NY mom (from a district that this past Nov election was able to replace the trumpist congressman we’d been stuck with) will support you as I can.

Not to mention the question of who the royal “we” is here too. When the “we” means an authority that owns sprawling businesses across the country, then, well, the slide into unfettered oligarchy, indeed kleptocracy is all but final. It is hard to understand why this man hasn’t been checked yet.

If you can imagine a Northern Harrier flying low over the snow covered field, as it had done just a few mins before this photo was taken, the picture would be complete.

As someone who works in an academic library, I esp also appreciate the point of universities needing to be of greater service to the non-student public.
