Was going to ask the Law Society this question but they aren’t here? Can anyone else tell me where they have squirrelled away the sample questions for experts? All the LoI templates return a link to this page but I can’t find the actual sample questions! www.lawsociety.org.uk/topics/famil...

Interesting & depressing, tho I did blink at the suggestion Swindon is somehow a cut above Cardiff 4 court buildings. An odd choice of comparator. Despite all the repair problems listed (sadly pretty normal in most courts) Cardiff is actually relatively well off 4 conference rooms compared to many.

Evening all. I done a blog post. www.pinktape.co.uk/cases/i-may-...

In good news, Chelmsford City Council have kindly cancelled my trio of parking tickets, issued as a result of my own inability to distinguish between a ZERO and an OH all week. Even better news. They cancelled all four of them. Bonus.

Pleased my bardar is still working. Pegged 2 barristers immediately on getting on the train. Confirmed when barrister 3 arrived and they all started talking about who had prosecuted who. I am still incognito… just time for another mini snooze. Been up since for for this morning’s trainathon…

Some news, team! 🎙️ I’m so excited to make my broadcasting debut for BBC Radio 4 next week. ‘You Do Not Have to Say Anything’ is a 10 episode behind-the-scenes peek at (and love letter to) the criminal justice system. Join me, Mon-Fri at 13:45 on BBC Radio 4 & BBC Sounds 🧡

In better news, I have tested the hypothesis that if I asked for a room clean today (in my Premier Plus room) I might get replenished mini choc bars. I expected disappointment but I was rewarded with two new green & blacks. Result. No more posh fizzy water, mind…

I am at that stage of mid-trial exhaustion where you can’t remember life before the start of the trial…crawling towards the weekend and my own bed…

A quick thread on criminal trials. The purpose of a criminal trial is to determine whether the accused is guilty or not guilty. That is the only purpose. They are not inquiries to determine precisely what happened or what lessons can be learned, nor are they designed to resolve conflict. /1

The lawyer in me is twitching to redraft this circular definition… If they had just called it “orangey juice” I would have been ok, but now I shall be thinking about it all morning! Yegods - what if it is replicated in every Premier Inn up and down the country?! 🫣😱😬

🤔

Hive mind (criminal bods in particular) - best tube / train station for Old Bailey in a rush? Coming in from Essex. Come straight to Liv St and get on tube or something else?

Dear all the families who would like us to attend their hearing as legal bloggers, Some top tips from us. Firstly, do read our FAQs - we have written them to explain what we do (& don’t do) & to help you send us the right information first time around: www.transparencyproject.org.uk/legalbloggers

2 week trial. So far we’ve had an equal number of near-catastrophic/amusing water spillages near electrical devices versus in-person witnesses (2fer2). Hoping to keep the number of the former @ 2, even as the latter rises…Our laptops surely can’t survive a third wibbly-wobbly-toppling cup unscathed?

Well done past me for booking the Premier Inn Plus room this week. *Much* nicer than coach class downstairs! (Includes iron, chocolate, comfy chair with footstool, proper coffee, fast wifi and ambient lighting. I might stay here all week and beam into court from my comfy chair….

To the parent who is letting their children “play”* the piano in the middle of S Mimms Service station for everyone to enjoy: are you serious?? I know kids make noise & are hard to keep entertained on long trips, but this is not as cute as you think it is. *or possibly murdering it with a hammer

I am very happy that John Lewis overstocked on lovely pyjamas for xmas because they have had to reduce them to ridiculously low prices and I bought the lot! I am less happy that I found two parking tickets on my car today, especially when I had purchased a ticket. Must be karma for the pj bargains.

Here is a Transparency thing I’m taking part in next week with @joshuarozenberg.bsky.social Gregory Jones KC (Alderman & Sheriff) @sanchia7.bsky.social HH Joseph KC & Melissa Davis. www.pinktape.co.uk/rants/transp...
