having looked into it, i'm definitely under the threshold that i'd need to file at the moment anyways but that just keeps things nice and neat and on the books so there's no chance of any nasty surprises later!

it's recognized, i actually have 2 legal passports (tho there are some quirks specific to being a US citizen like i can only enter the country on my US one)
it's mutually beneficial for me & my ex to still joint file so we just do that (we're not in any other relationships so it's legally ok)

short version: i was born Irish, moved to LA in the 2010s to get married, lived there 10 yrs or so, was fun didn't pan out in the long term (covid being a huge factor there), amicably divorced, moved back home where i am currently! so there's your tmi for the day π«‘

yeah that was the twist to my earning citizenship i didnt see coming! you technically can revoke your citizenship but it takes a lot of time and effort and costs a fortune (at least $2500 just to file the papers alone last i checked)

it's very pretty but that is a staggering amount of money for what's still just an emulator in an unusually nice box. also worth noting they currently have "no plans" for an english-language option in the OS according to their FAQ

i ended up jumping on it immediately, in hindsight it was maybe a little rash of me but i know once these boutique labels sell out that tends to be pretty much it (though there's currently plenty floating around mercari at a not-terrible markup)

they really nailed the launch on this one. it's sold out for the moment, but on launch day i could've picked one up from anywhere around here that sells that kind of thing, they all had both sets in stock despite obvious high demand. that's some serious planning compared to the usual mess.
