I don't know what that crew does but do know the world is better with it than without it, and the world is MUCH better that it's in capable hands rather than, well, that other crew.

(Since we can't see the now-blocked skeet) Does that mean we have to "do politics:" learn the art of the possible; persuade, nudge, and make arguments for the people not with us (yet); trade priorities? All that? It's messy and sub-optimal. Let us know the name of the system that's better.

... and really wants that for the rest of us. Pfft.

Plus catch more tax cheats as Joe Biden did by funding IRS's enforcement of the law.

PS: The convo makes me think of a long piece I once heard about places like London (and maybe Miami) where money-laundered real estate has corroded local processes to terrible effect. I cam away shaken because it was clear the US isn't outfitted to resist those dynamics.

Can they teach voters to cast strategic ballots? However they go at it, we have recent examples like Utah some years ago and Nebraska last year. Vermont and Maine are current examples. I don't know that trickery goes down well with voters.

Do journalists ever correct him on claims like this? Most of us learn our mistakes by repercussion or someone simply nudging us away from provable errors. Of course Trump's projects depend on bad info. But that doesn't mean he can't be challenged.

So he knows what the answer will be but has also boxed himself into a two week window. What tactic is this, I wonder?

That's a well-researched piece. It shows that Elon gets "stuck" -- is ideological -- in ways that blind him to other ways of thinking through a question. He's "'do' first, 'think' later" and probably doesn't accept "read before you think, think before you speak." He thinks with analogies too much.

He did. In the end, he always admits "yeah, I did it -- so what." Takes the alarm and shock away from us. If we had any left.

Yikes, it's true. Doomerism, low agency, will a savior stop up?, etc. To be fair, the culture hasn't needed to defend *all* of itself lately, and this isn't like earlier threats. I do know: Many state's don't support higher ed like they once did. Less int'l students will hurt and will matter.

Yet another group of innocent bystanders become props in Trump's America.

The depravity of this was neatly captured by the Reuters journalist who shot the image Trump brandished. “In view of all the world,” he said, Trump used his work to push the idea that “white people are being killed by Black people.” Link to full piece below. 6/6 newrepublic.com/article/1956...

🤣! A ten minute read shows the implausibility of Trump's demand. Trump never asks: Can Americans make affordable stuff at wages Americans expect? I guess we need trade and labor economists to discuss. Anyway, just once I'd like journalists to go back at Trump when he says airy word-salad nutters.

I have not read the book. Of the interviews I've heard, the one between Tapper and Ezra Klein is probably the most revealing for anybody who wants to enter the subject that way.

As several of the @thebulwark.com crew have noted, the liberal Joe Rogan *is* (er, was) Joe Rogan. Murder doesn't want to hear Tapper; fine, skip the episode. But man, "you're dead to me" performances are weak tea and look censorious to those tacitly being "other'ed" in a belonging'ness contest.

Yes, I do. That guy is not authorized to speak for me, and I don't like him because he thinks he can.
