Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992. Was there a breast cancer epidemic?! NO. Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976. PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something. This is also about autism.

Head Start, an early childhood education program for low income families, is on the chopping block. Growing up, my own mom was an aide with the program; it’s helped countless young mothers, including the one who tells her story here. www.kqed.org/news/1203596...

Today I learned that 15 international students at my university, @georgemasonu.bsky.social, have been purged so far by the US Administration. Their student visa was revoked—without explanation, without warning, without appeal, without telling the university. Arbitrary, opaque, cruel vandalism.

New Mexico made child care free for most families. Believe it or not, the good thing is good. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Happy Appomattox Day to all who celebrate and I expect each and every one of you to celebrate.

a lot of people think you need a lot of money to buy clothes. now you're right. ok. my bad.

I say this as someone who has been unfashionably pro-domestic manufacturing because of my research on the defense industry for several years. There is a way to do this by first finding alternative suppliers, onboarding producers, beefing up the skilled labor force, etc.. None of that happened.

Trump should know sales receipt tariff itemization on iPhones and products is definitely going to happen, making his tariff policy politically untenable. Hopefully, he realizes this sooner than later, so we can avoid needless economic suffering.

People don't miss manufacturing jobs. They miss the effects of having 30+ percent union density. And we can build worker power again, with good policies, for the jobs most working class people actually have today rather than hoping mumbo jumbo will make it 1955 again.

Markets check: everything is getting killed. US futures are down over 3%, high yield spreads are blowing out, crude is down almost 6% (thanks to OPEC+ for adding more supply than expected this AM), dollar down 1.5%, yield curve bull-steepening. Full-blown recession pricing for the US across assets.

I'm 18. The economy enters a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican president is responsible. I'm 29. There is once-in-a-century pandemic that leads to a once-in-century-recession. A Republican is responsible. I'm 35. Tarriffs trigger a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican is responsible.

This is just getting comical now for the DuPage County GOP, in Trump+1 Addison Township (a rare Republican-trending portion of the County): -The INCUMBENT Republicans for Clerk & Township Supervisor are LOSING -Democrats are currently winning 4 out 4 Township Board seats, ALL AGAINST INCUMBENTS!

In 1862, a Union soldier found cigars wrapped in a piece of paper in a field of clover. The paper was a copy of Confederate Gen. Lee's invasion orders. The Southern sloppiness helped the Union stop Lee at Antietam. It's unknown who lost the orders in the field, or if he was related to Pete Hegseth.

Disappearing people to avoid the jurisdiction of the court in which they were taken by the state is authoritarian to the core and runs afoul of the spirit of Article III, the Due Process Clause, and the principles that emerged from the Glorious Revolution and the American Revolution. Arbitrary rule.

Ah yes, the eternal question. Always a good excuse to bump this *epic* CV answer by @noahgreifer.bsky.social stats.stackexchange.com/questions/54...

World’s richest man paying Wisconsin voters $100 to sign a petition endorsing his political ideology

A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

Perhaps the Gamers are alright

The Trump administration has deported a 10-year-old girl to Mexico who is a US citizen and is recovering from brain cancer. Her family was on their way to an emergency medical checkup when they were detained.

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up. Tomorrow is the cloture vote. KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️ Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill. Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.

If you live in the following states, please call your Senator and demand they vote against the MAGA Coup Funding bill. - NY - MI - HI - ME - NH - PA - NM Call: (202) 224-3121 Script: indivisible.org/resource/cal...

Walz: I own this. We wouldn’t be in this mess if we'd have won the election and we didn't. We have to make sure that Americans know it's not just that Donald Trump is bad, but we're offering them something better

My favorite Harris campaign invention is how everyone got furious in the immediate aftermath about ground game and how worthless it was and blah blah blah. And then once the map was complete and the votes were counted, it turns out that good ground game is worth like 3-4 points.

It's the entire email list for all DOGE employees. Have fun!
