Unidentified frog species deep in the Ecuadorean Amazon. Check out the YouTube video from this trip - covering a four-day solo packrafting jaunt through the jungle: youtu.be/oFKMtVj9Icc #naturephotography #wilderness #naturelovers #jungle #tropicalrainforest #treefrog #frog #yasuni

Stingless ground-nesting bees in the Ecuadorean Amazon, near Yasuni National Park. #nature #naturephotography #explore #wilderness #naturelovers #jungle #tropicalrainforest #tropicalrainforests #tropicalbees #insects #insect #insectphotography #bugs #exoticinsects #yasuni #yasuninationalpark

More leafcutter ants! This was during a frightening but fascinating four-day solo trip through the Ecuadorean rainforest: youtu.be/oFKMtVj9Icc #nature #naturephotography #explore #wilderness #jungle #tropicalrainforest #leafcutterants #insects #insect #insectphotography #ants #bugs #exoticinsects

Is it a stick? Nope, it’s a huge stick insect on a tree in the depths of the Amazon in Ecuador. If someone can identify this I’d be curious. #nature #naturephotography #explore #wilderness #naturelovers #jungle #rainforest #macrophotography #insect #insectphotography #stickinsect #insects

Scarlet elfcup fungus - biggest I’ve ever seen - in a forest on the Ayrshire coast this morning.

Why walk back to your nest when you can get your big sister to carry you - without even realising! Check out the four-day solo packrafting trip through the rainforest I did to get these shots and many others: youtu.be/oFKMtVj9Icc

The vast temperate rainforest of Fiordland, in southwest New Zealand completely covers the hillsides of this drenched landscape - one of the wettest places in the world. Seen from the Dusky Track. youtu.be/0PWJm_7HosQ

‘This forest is old… very old’. Not the mythical Fangorn forest, but a real temperate rainforest along the Dusky Track, in the Seaforth river valley in Fiordland, New Zealand. Check out the video of the trek here: youtu.be/0PWJm_7HosQ

A brief pause in the rain in the Seaforth River Valley in Fiordland, southern New Zealand. This was only a short but beautiful respite on what was otherwise one of the most miserable days hiking I’ve ever had, on the Dusky Track in New Zealand. Check out the YouTube video: youtu.be/0PWJm_7HosQ

Autumn beauty in a damp forest near Strathcanaird in the far northwest of Scotland. Obviously it’s not Autumn anymore, but I paid another visit to this beautiful patch of woodland last week. Check it out in my recent YouTube video - youtu.be/RcVa9fZcSzw

New old video up now on my YouTube channel. I filmed this in 2019 and was perhaps the most miserable I’ve ever been on a multi-day trip: youtu.be/0PWJm_7HosQ

A dreamy pool in a hidden rainforest fragment not far from Ullapool. There’s no trail in here - and that makes it even more special. My latest YouTube video - out just this evening - covers a visit to this gorgeous spot: youtu.be/RcVa9fZcSzw

Some more screenshots from my cave camping trip last week in northwest Scotland - the video is now up on YouTube: youtu.be/SL8ShoclQQE. Not the most conducive place to sleeping I have to say, but a fascinating experience to tick off the bucket list.

New video out tonight from a trip to the Allt nan Uamh stream cave last week near Inchnadamph in Sutherland. I love caving and have done far too little of it over the last 20-years. This time I ticked off an experience I’ve wanted to have for ages - camping underground! youtu.be/SL8ShoclQQE

Majestic Slioch rises in the distance, seen from the Scots Pine forests of Eilean Sùbhainn, the largest island on Loch Maree in the northwest highlands. This is my favourite place in lowland Scotland - a real paradise of native forest and water… when the midges aren’t present! youtu.be/zhP8QiamBig

A frozen loch last week within Eilean Sùbhainn, itself an island of Loch Maree in the northwest highlands! Sùbhainn is the largest island on Loch Maree, sporting no less than four small lochs of its own! Check out the video of the trip here: youtu.be/zhP8QiamBig

The frozen loch with the islands on a loch on an island on a loch on an island! This small unnamed loch lies on Eilean Sùbhainn, itself an island of Loch Maree in the northwest highlands, which is itself a loch within the island of Great Britain! Check out the YouTube video: youtu.be/zhP8QiamBig

The magical forested islands of Loch Maree in the northwest highlands just before sunrise. I spent two days and a cold night in a tent out there last week. See the YouTube video of the adventure via the YouTube link in my bio 🙂.

Paddling the glorious islands of Loch Maree last week in the frigid conditions. I’ve waited two-years for the snow on the ground combined with calm paddling conditions and free time to head out here and take snowy photos. Check out the new YouTube video of it on my channel: youtu.be/zhP8QiamBig

Lovely aurora last night greeted us on our arrival back in Scotland after Christmas in Germany 🙂

Happy New Year! The sun is now getting higher every day, unlike a few weeks ago when I made these pictures on the Cairngorm plateau during a frigid two-day trip, including a camp on the summit of Ben Macdui - the second highest peak in Scotland. Check out the video on YouTube: youtu.be/96FtPawHHDE

The summit of Ben Macdui by drone, and the journey to get there and camp on it recently. Stunning calm & clear winter conditions allowed for an exceptional couple of days on the white and gleaming Cairngorm plateau. Check out the video on my YouTube channel: youtu.be/96FtPawHHDE

Panorama of the Loch A’an basin at dusk a couple of weeks ago, deep in the Cairngorms. At 725m above sea level this is easily the highest loch this big in the UK.

Dreaming of a white Christmas? This was the scene on the Cairngorm plateau a couple of weeks ago. I just had to climb to get it 🥶. Check out the video on my YouTube channel: youtu.be/96FtPawHHDE

Sharing this video for a friend, from a nice trip we did together back in the summer: youtu.be/i8uBWNVHOY4?...

Fata Morgana… an optical illusion whereby air currents close to the horizon bend light rays in a way which stretches and exaggerates the height, closeness and steepness of distant mountains. In this case these are the hills around Glen Affric in the northern highlands, seen from the Cairngorms

Panorama of the Lairig Ghru - a high glen that bisects two plateaus in the Cairngorms. I captured this shortly before sunrise during a wonderful few days of weather two weeks ago, and the video of the micro adventure is now available on my YouTube channel: youtu.be/96FtPawHHDE

Latest YouTube video out now, covering a trip to the remote Cairngorm plateau and spending the night on the summit of Ben Macdui - the second highest peak in the UK: youtu.be/96FtPawHHDE

Happy winter solstice from northern Scotland! The dark and the weather can be so oppressive up here in winter I’m always relieved to know the sun will now be rising higher each day for the next six months 🙂.

The Coigach hills in northwest Scotland a couple of weeks ago. Snow is all gone now… the unpredictability of Scottish winters!

Another image of the incredible towering snow shower clouds approaching Inverpolly a couple of weeks ago at sunrise. The video of my frigid summit camp is now up on my YouTube channel - youtu.be/IfH6O6yv5HM
