Pat Verbeek created this mess by acquiring Jacob Trouba, and could easily step in and get Zellweger more playing time. His role in all of this shouldn't be overlooked, even though it has by a lot of folks.

Zellweger is now essentially the Ducks' 7th defenseman. How did it get to this point? 1. LaCombe cementing his spot 2. Helleson's arrival 3. The Trouba trade 4. The resulting three-man rotation 5. Potentially some grumbling from Mintyukov's camp behind the scenes (purely my guess). Not great.
