this is a joke for a very certain subset of people but I KNOW you're here

if you see me shitposting through it please understand I do a lot of serious sounding of alarm bells in my actual job and this is my counter-programming channel

one of the best science trivia team names I ever encountered was "the power bottom quarks" and now I would like to humbly submit (pun not intended but acknowledged) "service topological qubits"

I don't know or care whether the president meant to say "transgenic mice" or "transgender mice" but I do think it's important to note that the woolly mammoth mice have enby hair

once I spoke the language of the flowers and wrote 5,000 words of fanfiction a night while maintaining my gpa

There is always something you can do to gum up the works of fascism. A story. Claude Cahun. The queer nonbinary French-Jewish photographer. Nazis conquered France, were training soldiers on Jersey, where Cahun lived w/their partner, Marcel Moore. They did disinfo & morale smashing via Surrealism.

My husband's therapist was talking about the evolutionary angst of winter and how humans need "enrichment time in their enclosures" to ward off depression, which of course isn't new, but the real zinger was when they said "you just have to ask yourself: what's my pumpkin full of ground beef?"

I'm writing a new advice column for @slate.bsky.social with @doreeshafrir.bsky.social about jobs and careers and how to make life better at work. We hope it'll be a blast! Here's the first advice column (1/3) slate.com/advice/2025/...

If OSHA goes away I am using the forklift for evil

we are depriving generations of kids of the formative experience of stumbling upon some weird horny sci-fi or fantasy book that was absolutely not written for them, which is the kind of thing that makes reading feel exhilarating, like you are unlocking the grownup world’s fun secrets

“A minorrrrrrrr”

you have the musk hat trick here of being genuinely ignorant — the president isn’t an elected sovereign — and also incredibly dishonest

there are certain things that I know I'm not meant to comprehend, such as how much money I've spent on expansions for the sims 4 over the past decade

Excellent interview of Prof. Jamil Zaki by @feltman.bsky.social today! In it, he advocates hopeful skepticism and explains how cynicism is not only toxic to individuals and communities, it's also a tool of the status quo. www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/epis...

Watching this on repeat how is your day going?

Incredible things continue to happen on the federal worker subreddit.

weighing the cons of a monday afternoon improv class (monday is a flex day for me and having no standing appointments is nice, plus afternoon classes have a ton of beautiful 19 year olds who make me feel decrepit) vs a wednesday evening class (sleepy) and I have never felt so aged

It actually is very important that you do things that you take pleasure in, regularly. That is part of how you survive the things that feel like they are going to destroy you.

What can you do to fight against misinformation? This.

This is a remarkable moment. Trump and Vance sit there in silence, as a bishop pleas with them to lean on their better angels and not follow through with their depraved campaign promises that target the LGBTQ+ community and immigrants. Never seen anything like this.

they wanted so badly to sound science-y that they actually did a full loop and said that no one is male or female

I said this earlier, but it's worth repeating. This statement is classic pseudoscience, adopting sciency-sounding language to seem more credible, but it's nonsense. No human produces reproductive cells "at conception." Reproductive organs begin developing about 7 weeks after conception.

I just remembered my dream last night, which involved a reptile that looked like an iguana (but was the size and shape of a french bulldog) sitting on my head for like a full minute. I didn't know if this was playful or threatening behavior. Also: it was so hefty.

Corporations worldwide are spending untold billions to make this technology the frontal experience of every user interface, for some fuckin reason.

Moving away from meta the week my ig acct grew by 20k followers wasn’t on my to-do list, but I think it’s bout time to start a Midwest goodbye over there. This cup has a 20 oz capacity. Drop is on Feb 1 & 2, patrons get access the first date.
