Presented at this year’s Black Women’s Conference hosted by the Institute for Black Studies at the University of Kentucky. My former student, Lulu, and I presented on our Black feminist #MeToo activism. We were honored to be invited to speak by Black girlhoods scholar, Aria Halliday. #HSfeminism

Rule #1

Would be unfortunate if this new "report your school's DEI" website by US Department of Education was flooded with with complaints about how censoring DEI hurts students/has a negative effect on learning (might want to avoid using real info, because you know, authoritarianism). enddei.ed.gov

I just downloaded the app 5 Calls so that I can make calls to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand. It has phone numbers, scripts, and reminders. buttondown.com/5calls

#EduSky this is a hostile takeover

We need to call out the blatant lie being pushed by the Trump administration—that Elon’s staffers have only “read-only” access. It has been confirmed across departments that they have “administrative” access to computer systems.

@ncte.org why is @hcodymiller.bsky.social post about censorship and project 2025 missing from the website? Thanks to @wargojon.bsky.social for the heads up

As we move forward into this next semester of school, it’s important to talk about the current and impending bans on justice oriented curricula and books in schools. Share this with your high school students, undergrads, graduate students, teacher education students. We all need to be resisting.

This looks like Florida’s rubric for reviewing K12 texts for adoption. Same punchline: demonize some people/ideas, take opportunity away from everyone. www.fldoe.org/core/filepar...

Still one more week to submit your abstract to the Gender & Education conference happening in May 2025. Join us!

Spent an amazing day guest speaking in a high school class on gender and literature at the American School in London. Inspiring students, teachers, and leaders thinking deeply about feminist theory, literature, and justice.

Advocates didn’t even have to wait for Inauguration Day to start seeing LGBTQ+ civil rights rolled back. womensmediacenter.com/news-feature...

I was a guest speaker in Dr. Hanna Retallack’s graduate course at the @ioe.bsky.social in London. I shared my work on teaching Black & Latina feminist theory in schools. Hanna & I started as feminist high school teachers; now we teach the next generation of feminist teachers in New York and London.

A day away from the desk with the wonderful @feministteacher.bsky.social and a trip to the @vaginamuseum.bsky.social 🦪🌮🫘

"I have come to the view that the Columbia University administration has created such a toxic and hostile environment for legitimate debate around the war in Israel and Palestine that I can no longer teach or conduct research at Columbia." Full statement here: drive.google.com/file/d/1i4cO...

This this this!!!!!

Excited to be at the European Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ECQI) being held this year in Edinburgh. I’ll be presenting on my research with AfroLatinx trans youth and Black and Latina feminisms in schools. #ECQI2025

Starting the year by traveling to London and Edinburgh with @smithcollege.bsky.social friends and by reading a love story by Caleb Azumah Nelson; this novel features a Black British couple who meet in London. Intention setting my own 2025 writing by reading other writers’ beautiful words.

There’s always one more reason to teach young people about how patriarchy and domination, power and privilege work. Here’s yet another reason.

I’m one of those developmental editors at @jqtsie.bsky.social 🙌🏽

Spent time this weekend at @smithcollege.bsky.social, where I spent my undergraduate years as an English major. It was there where I first imagined my life as a feminist teacher. It was emotional returning as Dr. Jiménez for a daylong writing retreat. Always #firstgen teacher, scholar, activist.

A lot of people think everything will work out if we just play by the rules but don’t seem to recognize that rules only matter when everyone agrees to follow them and, well, that isn’t our present reality.

I’ve been attending the Gender & Education conference since 2015. Location changes between the UK, Australia, New Zealand, & Europe. I’m on the executive committee; our next conference is in May 2025 in Manchester, UK. A great conference for feminist scholars in education across fields. More below:

400+ years after the "First Thanksgiving" most Americans have no idea that the Wampanoag people are still here. My tribe, the Aquinnah Wampanoag, is on Martha's Vineyard and we're still fighting for our land and rights. We’re also doing some cool stuff. 🧵👇 if you’d like to learn more & support us

It was an honor to deliver the opening keynote at the Latinx mentoring session at #NCTE2024 My talk was titled: “Mentoring in times of anger, despair, and fatigue: Or putting our pieces back together again.” Thank you to Dr. Tracey Flores for inviting me to speak 💜🙌🏽📚🍉

Feeling held by much needed time with colleagues both longtime and new at #NCTE2024

Can’t wait to read Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s memoir. Her parents were teachers too! #NCTE2024 ⚖️🙌🏽📚

Beautiful presentation by Rashida Mustafa at #NCTE2024 on teaching Palestinian literature to high school students 🙌🏽 what we need right now for resisting injustice and enacting liberation. Reading list here: padlet.com/rm3793/a-gui...

Throughout my 26 years as an English teacher, I taught a course on intersectionality & women of color feminisms. This course was my commitment to teaching feminist theory & activism to high school students. This article features some of my curriculum #NCTE2024 publicationsncte.org/content/jour...
