The underwriting part of this potential is scary for furthering income inequality. Especially if grant programs are shuttered (would assume those get cut first, but it’s been hard to get accurate information about the intended order of operations and I haven’t tried overly hard to do so yet.)

Oh, and if you do use Medicaid, the state can come after your estate after you pass for “repayment” for the services provided. Very limited ways around this.

I remember this! The way you shared your experience in real time was so important

It amazes me that Fitzgerald was never taught through this lens in any of my Lit classes. (Though maybe I shouldn’t be surprised…)

@maryburke.bsky.social taught me that at least in one context, some white Americans started doing this so they wouldn’t look Irish American. Layers of problematic thinking, though, and decades of shifting cultural contexts.

My guess, and it is a guess, is that there will almost have to be a new tax bill this year with TCJA provisions expiring. These provisions were part of the TCJA (with an expiration,) so if enough people are noisy about it I think it’s reasonable to think it would get in. Always been v bipartisan.

Ohhhhh I’m gonna have to look up the paper! I have to wonder about the income/health correlation, too…I wonder if it was controlled for. They mentioned the negative travel experiences, too. I bet there’s more to that. Once you’ve controlled for all that, that growth mindset has to be a huge part!

Also B&N has a hard cover version, but those orders don’t help me directly as an author as much at this point.

Right????? TBF, the sheltering aspects of ABLE won’t expire at the end of 2025. But keeping the increased contribution levels for ABLE to Work, Savers Credit access & 529 to ABLE rollovers beyond the 2025 tax year & making them PERMANENT would be huge! And it’s attainable with civic participation!

I forget what they’re called, but those peanut butter sugar ones with Hershey kisses on top (not squished like thumbprints!)
