Some survived the ordeal when they were free, but a lot would succumb to what is now known as the fake copper fungus. The mine was permanently closed, but this also lead to fake copper and borealisite (which is basically a crystal formed from greater panther dna) becoming rampant. (2/3)

The lore for this is like fairly important as it's the reason why everything is happening. In the 30s they accidentally dug up a rift in the tunnel, and it released a shockwave so bad there was a cave in, trapping the miners inside (one of them being one of Cyrus' ancestors). (1/3)
