Thank god

Tariffs on exports… it really is Peronism

What’s most enraging is that unless a recession happens the Trump administration will not be viewed as a failure despite already having genocidal consequences

Tbh I do wonder wtf is up with that. Maybe becoming a billionaire is something that only happens if you’ve got a scrooge mcduck mentality? That doesn’t explain cases like McKenzie Bezos not donating though

For all that I’m a rich non American, one of the people least affected by Trump’s administration in the world, the NIH cuts alone have probably shortened my life expectancy

It’s honestly kind of strange, here in Uruguay the 2002 currency crisis devastated the ruling party, enough so that they still haven’t recovered, and while center right parties are still competitive even more than two decades out the association with 2002 still hurts them

You can’t really price weighed metrics of National Income like GDP or GNI for the USSR or pre deng China, but tbh I do think some coherent measure of “productive capacity” that isn’t just measure kgs of output would be useful to have. I just don’t know what I’d use

I wonder how quickly you average doctor could “re-tool” when faced with a patient with a disease thought extinct like measles or polio. It’s not like they could refer the patient to a specialist, there are no specialists!

People taking this analysis seriously… he doesn’t believe any of this, he’s a grifter who sold out to evil for the money and boost to his career

IQ stuff is bunk but yes there is? The moral philosophy underlying liberalism isn’t virtue ethics, its founders were all utilitarians or deontologists. Only case were some innate trait in individuals would have you draw non egalitarian conclusions is if you assume that someone is a utility monster

Maybe controversial but food stamps are fine. Food is a part of everyone’s budget, so cash and food stamps are basically equivalent at most magnitudes, you only get some inefficiency at the margins. Not worth the squeeze, it’s a good talking point against the idea of the poor spending cash on drugs

I wonder who the NYT is gonna replace Krugman with. Given the way that rag is going they’ll probably pick some annoying right wing econ crank who is nonetheless prestigious. Get ready to read Cochrane buddy

Stephane Dupraz is one of the most underrated macroeconomists around. Doesn’t have a lot of papers but they’re all worth reading

Skimmed this and it seems great. So far the best money and banking textbook I’ve seen. I have a few quibbles though

I wouldn’t be so quick to assume they don’t notice. Some are good faith sure, but I’ve really stopped assuming good faith with people “just asking questions”. Often enough I bet that they’re deliberately rather than accidentally trying to create a permission structure for bigotry

Yeah. Fundamentally the only restrictions on the right to free movement I find valid are if you commit crimes, of which the solution is jail time rather than deportation, which is just moving the problem somewhere else rather than solving it

Aside from land, are there any other examples of perfectly durable goods? Would be interested in seeing where else the Coase Conjecture could apply

I can already picture the three dragons meme with Saez as the serious dragon and Piketty and Zucman as the silly dragons by center right econs

I’d be interested in pre 2016 data, there are econs I’d consider relatively conservative who vote Democrat because the Republican party is full of insane fascist pedocons
