I used a motorized cart today for grocery shopping for the 1st time in my life. Having been fat my whole life & hearing the shitty #Fatphobic AND #Ableist shit people say about fat people using them, I've always been too afraid to use one. But today the pain was worse than the fear of vitriol.

My fave thing this week re: #EhlersDanlosSyndrome is from @unremarkableme.bsky.social site. This gem is gonna live in my head FIVE-EVER... "Can't connect the issues? Think connective tissues." The # of times per week I say "oh that's what that is" now that I'm learning about my new dx... Pssshh.

WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

All this bullshit immediately crumbles when it's presented to anyone who's not a sympathetic cohost on your podcast

Amika (my service dog in training) doesn't understand that I cannot play tug-o-war on the days that my hands hurt too badly to grasp and jerk and tug so she just keeps bringing me another of her fave tug-o-war toys, shoving it in my knee or belly or face until she gives up, only to try another one 😭

When I moved from my last house, the landlord decided to change the locks early with all of my bookshelves still inside. All of #ThePeoplesLibraryABQ books had been packed & moved but have been in boxes since because I can't afford 6 new shelves. Can you help? shorturl.at/APdm6 Venmo: @FiadhLeigh

The People's Library-ABQ is a community resource brimming w/ queer & feminist theory, disability justice, CDs & DVDs, YA & children's books, anti-racist action, Indigenous resistance, transformative justice, zines, world building sci-fi, revolutionary thought, & more! radicalbooksabq.libib.com

Two important phrases that my children have grown up hearing and have become adages in our family: 1) It's going to hurt for as long as it hurts 2) just do the next kind thing

Sometimes in a conflict there is not a bad guy vs a good guy. Sometimes they are both bad. But our tendency to create a false binary & immediately glom onto the side we painted as good often means we latch onto people, politics, & positions that actually... suck. The lesser of 2 evils is still evil.

Thou shalt accept that DEI didn't hold your career back -- you're just mid, bro.

Mask bans kill disabled people. It’s a eugenics tool. By others not masking in solidarity, you’re saying your comfort and convenience is more important than our lives. Abled comfort and convenience do not outweigh disabled lives and safety. Does your “we keep us safe” include disabled people?

I read Farmington & my heart sank but I read on, wishing to find that it was some other state's Farmington, knowing it wouldn't make what I was about to read any better. But no. This is home grown hate, child abuse, & ableism. "Released on their own recognizance." WHAT THE FUCK, SAN JUAN COUNTY?!

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%. The actual number is less than 1%. Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

I'm not a football fan & I have no idea who this guy was but I now have a better idea of who this guy IS: a comrade. Using your position, platform, & voice to call out nazi violence is something every one of us CAN do & I'm grateful to @chriswarcraft.bsky.social for his act of rebellion & bravery.

Something something about the same ones who burn crosses being the ones who work forces... Quelle surpris.

Called a phone # for @unm.edu genetics dept to f/up on a referral. The phone # I have is a UNM prefix (272) but routes me to a voicemail that states that # is unavailable and that # has a consumer prefix (974) so I'm hesitant to leave any personal info. What the actual fuck?

If I'm looking for 'moral clarity' in this moment or any other, I'm not looking to individuals or groups who very deliberately chose to remain silent throughout a prolonged genocide enabled by their own country because they worried speaking truth might affect their fundraising.

For the first time in 2 years, I did a major book haul for #ThePeoplesLibraryABQ. Focusing exclusively on children's books. Books about: Family Trust Gender Body Image Disability Activism Anger Power Being Transgender Diversity Systemic Racism Racism Feminism Shame Incarceration Sexual Abuse

Sometimes I'll tell myself I don't have Ehlers Danlos & that I'm just making shit up for attention (thanks internalized ableism.) Then I'll be researching EDS & be like oh. I have that. Like atrophic scars & follicular hyperkeratosis. I didn't even know those were THINGS but I've got 'em.

I wonder why some people think the left boot tastes better than the right boot? Just remember, the boot you lick today will be the same one you find on your neck tomorrow.

Anyone else remember Ukraine supplementing their army with Azov, a far right nationalist militia splintered off a neo-nazi group? Anyone else recall Azov coating bullets intended for Muslims with pig fat or their attacks on Roma people? I wonder if Azov is still a strong element in Ukraine's army?

Bestie @allunaryze.bsky.social joked last night that I wear hiking boots with my 50s style cocktail dress dress so that people would know I'm gay. She apparently forgets what I look like. I was able to offer her absolute assurance that no one ever mistakes me for straight.

Beyond grateful today for the nurses, techs, anesthesiologists, & the surgeon (who had a LARGE progress pride badge holder) who not only saw my son through exploratory surgery to look for endometriosis, but never failed to correctly name & gender him at every stage, from check-in to post-op.

On Audre Lorde’s birthday, I’m thinking about her Kitchen Table Press. She (second from left), Barbara Smith, Cherrie Moraga and Hattie Gossett came together to establish a press centering feminist and lesbians of color — and it shook the publishing industry. #bhm

I've been touting bodily autonomy as central to all intersections of liberation for a hot minute but as usual @phoenixcalida.bsky.social said it better and has likely been saying it longer ❤️

1) Social media saved my life. I saw a post, after 8 years of doctor appointments & blood work & tests & misdiagnoses, from a pediatric immunologist in s Facebook group who'd been diagnosed w/ #EDS sharing a TON of valuable info. I took that post directly to my PCP & w/in 30 days had my diagnosis.
