My new favorite thing is having people ask me about my cargo bike. Yesterday I could see the wheels turning in the inquisitor’s mind — clearly picturing all the things he could do on a bike like this. #cargobike (still a lot of swearing about the prevalence of wave racks in Tempe)

*chirp, chirp!* What’s that? Is it an early bird, or a plane? No! It’s the sounds of Nature Month! Tomorrow we’ll be broadcasting from a BIRDING TOUR at Salesforce Park! Join us! *squawks* only on @bffdotfm

rebranding the 15 min city.

Sometimes I'm commuting and some person on an e-bike passes me and will sheepishly apologize for "cheating" and I'm like, look around, we are surrounded by a crawling ocean of miserable people driving short distances in 5000 pound SUVs, you are winning not cheating.

I had a baby and wrote a book last year, and I don't think I could have done either without doing this first

When you’re in a really big hurry to pass a cyclist in your 8,000lb vehicle—especially a kid—spare a thought for my friend D, who met a driver in a hurry 30 years ago and has lived with a traumatic brain injury ever since. Could you live with causing that, or worse? #BikeBus

It me

A groundbreaking new study found that the surge in SUVs from 1995 to 2019 reduced Minnesota's highway lane capacity by 9.5%. Less lane capacity --> More congestion Me, in CityLab 🧵

Shout out to Jeffrey Goldberg for reporting on this now instead of waiting two years to put it in a book.

It’s important to remember that most people don’t want what’s happening in the US.

I kind of resent that this is “passport Barbie”, flying to the Netherlands to bike because America isn’t a place for biking.

Share the media. The news is compromised. We're starting to boil over.

Today’s edition of No Wonder People Don’t Bike More Here is brought to you by CVS, offering parking in a dark corner far away from the entrance.

NEW: Every Tempe elected official should see this polling. 58% of AZ voters support new apartments near them to bring down housing costs. NIMBY voices are loudest at city hall, but voters *want* new homes built. It's time for local electeds to take note. tempeyimby.org/2025/03/13/v...

I guess it'll be up to bike people to take down the oligarchy.

Going against the norms of a society can be difficult, but very fulfilling when it becomes a way of life. You will turn heads and whether you ever know it or not, you get people thinking.

It's so mortifying to be an American right now.

FAFO. Let us make it so.

I don't ever want to see another Hollywood movie where the United States does something to save the world in any way, shape, or form. I draw the line of unbelievable shit at flying dragons.

Last year, the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology introduced the 'Infuuts', a special bike for children attached to tubes and IVs. Due to all reactions the bicycle is now produced on a larger scale for use by other hospitals at home and abroad. 👌🏼 🚲 🥰 @themaximacenter.bsky.social

Americans are taking the wrong orange pill. You need the bottle labeled NJB, not DJT.

El Capitan displays a massive American flag upside down—the traditional signal of distress or extreme emergency.

To Whom It May Concern: My main accomplishments from the last week are as follows: 1. Woke up 2. Grabbed a brush, put a little makeup 3. Hid the scars to fade away the shake up 4. Left the keys upon the table 5. Created another fable Sincerely,

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

i'm in my guillotine era

In my first piece for @theguardian.com, I told the story about how a Portlander used social media to spark a movement that’s sweeping the nation… and why a similar movement in Portland over a decade prior didn’t have the same reach.

The Reddit community "50501" is organizing protests across all 50 states. Online outrage isn’t enough, we need people on the ground to help restore our democracy. If you're ready to push back and be part of real action, this is where plans are coming together. 👇

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Far right-wing forces have long argued that government doesn’t work. They routinely provide irrefutable evidence that government doesn’t work when we foolishly give THEM control over it.

Huge turnout to protest the abuses of the Trump administration and save the civil service in downtown Seattle. Thousands in attendance.

maybe for my birthday this year everyone can come over and we'll watch the whole box set of faerie tale theatre dvds and eat pastries

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

the way.

My late 30s were robbed by a pandemic. My early 40s are being stolen by an extreme political ideology fucking up the entire world. When will I be allowed to enjoy my life without god damn billionaires and "unprecedented events" getting in the way?
