I’m becoming more and more convinced it’s resources. I don’t/can’t pay for ads, pay for premium social media accounts, etc…so our growth is SLOW and entirely person-to-person.

I know a good podcast you can listen to that walks through the franchise and talks about all this 😉 (it’s ours).

Dragon Ball is based (partially and moreso at the beginning than as it went on) on one of the oldest Chinese novels, Journey to the West, so its structural similarities to older storytelling and narrative simplicity make sense.

I never even made it into enough of a groove to attempt to play for any length of time without feeling just utterly lost and worthless. I played it for like, a couple weeks(?) for little 40-90 minute times, then just slid it onto the shelf where it collects dust.

I have those ALL THE TIME. I feel like I'm doing something wrong or the hard way or missing something because I put in a LOT of effort and don't see the return I'd expect...it helps (a little) to remind myself I started this because it's fun. And that though slow, there has been steady growth.

I wish there was more of a single-player mode just to get used to the controls and what stuff does. I got tossed into the thick of it and IMMEDIATELY was getting slagged by teammates who were like "If you had just done [thing] we could have won!" and I was like "...what button even is that?"

Max Landis blocked me years ago for pointing out how ill-informed a Godzilla opinion of his was. And nothing was lost.

I think it's finding out what people like then recommending anime in that wheelhouse. Anime is a MEDIUM not a GENRE. There are tropes of general "Japanese entertainment" but 'anime' is such a diverse medium, that unless you're an "I don't watch cartoons BRO" meathead, there's SOMETHING for you.

I don't mind playing on hard mode for the challenge if I really like the game, but I usually go with Normal or even Easy for my first playthrough of something because I want to get more wrapped up in the story than attempting to get past a really difficult part.

Thus proving once and for all that Dragon Ball is not set in modern-day America.

He gives Vegeta a bit of...sniveling(?) to him that the character needs. A haughty spoiled person finally having to deal with reality sort of tone that would have helped Americans realize Vegeta's supposed to be ...kind of a loser, and not a "badass" (I love Vegeta BECAUSE he's kind of a loser)

You can kinda get this read a little bit, because Namekians have only 4 fingers in the manga, which was changed to 5 in the anime in order to avoid any possible connections with/associations with/accusations of Burakumin depiction. So...not super far off...he's also openly racist towards Saiyans

Word. "Run through the game 15 times on hard mode in one day in under 3.5 hours" for 5 achievement points or whatever is just not worth the effort. I have a sort of "This is what I would call 100%" bar and once I hit that, I'm good.

Usually when I complete everything in a single-player mode. Or when doing so would become more effort than it's really worth. On the rare occasion I get to play games anymore.

I like FvJ a lot, but I am a big 09 defender as well. I've always wanted to do a roundtable with some friends where we read through the original FvJ script that was about Jason being on trial and release it as a podcast episode.
comment in response to post
...but you could have said Jason X, or FvJ or F13pt6 instead of Goes to Hell...

The thing is...I'd rather something actively, hilariously bad like Resurrection than just BLAND like 5. Though I would very much rather have NEITHER and just have stuff that's good

"Astro Boy? Never heard of her. What the hell is an Osamu Tezuka?" -The person who made this (and listen, I think 'well-actually'-ers attempt to downplay the importance of Dragon Ball a LOT and I think it wouldn't be OVERLY hyperbolic to say this about anime IN THE US, but ultimately: BRUH.)

...Your fandom does not need to include stuff you don't enjoy. Let go a little bit. I'm a Star Wars fan, but I don't really care about....anything outside the original trilogy. I'm a Godzilla fan. I'll never watch the Polygon Netflix trilogy ever again. It's okay. It can't hurt me.

"Dragon Ball should have ended at..." ...bruh. Nobody is forcing you to watch or entertain any of it beyond whatever point you think is the best ending. (Not YOU, specifically; the royal 'you' as in 'yous guyses') People act like "new thing" means they're being FORCED to watch/read it...

Amazing what a shirt and a little inhaling can do! I need to drop a solid 20, and I’d LIKE to get 35 off but I also enjoy food and beer too much…

MOST of them are connected to very little aside from "the franchise" Continuity is non-existent.

Super well-animated episode, though. And Inoshikacho is awesome.

Phones I think more than internet. When you just sit and actually WATCH something instead of distracting yourself with your phone over and over you allow yourself to feel the tension build and it draws you in. When it's done well. Which Dragon Ball generally does.

He did stuff like that a lot. Roshi is just Dr. Slump's Kami character.

Frieza being silly is a little bit on the franchise itself though. Not that I'm complaining, because I actually PREFER Super's "catty little bitch Frieza who just wants to be a little bit taller and is a total drama queen" to the previous depiction of him.

Just follow the cool Dragon Ball people.

I was disappointed it wasn’t MORE silly. I just want Kuu, Duu and Hybis hanging out.

I mean…I think it depends on the nature of the complaint a little.

I understand tongues are planted firmly in cheeks all around here, but this comparison cooks.

…close to print deadline for his editor to be able yo change anything. In an eventual fighting game, this character can fuse with Piccolo and the fused character’s attacks are based on this guy’s real life known common phrases and tics

Dr Slump was Toriyama’s first hit. It was big enough that he could have retired after it was over had he been allowed. When he had to introduce the antagonist for the series, he modeled him almost exactly after his editor and named him by just flipping the syllables. He sent in his draft too…

You must have watched the fast-paced parts.
