Well, we won. Best Podcast at the Australian Sport Commission awards. Best dressed too, probably 🙂

At the SCG for our award nomination…

This is awesome. Over a hundred people joined as supporters during our campaign to catch Murali’s magic number of 800 while we were in Sri Lanka. patreon.com/thefinalword if you want to join them 🙂

Four centuries in five Tests from Smith is insane. #SLvAus

Crazy stats. Steve Smith goes past Ponting with 197 Test catches, the Australian record. Ponting fielded 118 more times in Test matches. Played 52 more Tests. And was probably the best all-round fielder Australia's ever had.

England rallied for a while, but eventually it was another smash-up at the MCG. Our last show for a little while with the fabulous Izzy Westbury, our guest host through the Women's Ashes. From the MCC Library. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t... Video: youtu.be/jBcGhyAFbR4

I can’t express how much joy it gave me to mention Anabelle Sutherland AND Peggy Antonio in the same sentence on my regular weekly cameo on ABC Regional Victoria Saturday Breakfast 📻 this morning. Ping @finalwordcricket.bsky.social for making Peggy part of my regular cricket ramblings!

What in blazes was happening with England's fielding today? Izzy has a partial explanation. Partial though. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t... Video: youtu.be/IwUZbNV0i5Y

The MCC Library is displaying Peggy Antonio’s scorecard: 6 for 49 in the January 1935 Test for one of Australia’s first leg-spin legends.

Guardian headline writers are often cautious so it’s fun when they turn up the dial sometimes. Here’s Geoff on yesterday. www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/j...

A big first day at the MCG Test, and also at the Afghan women's team match before it. Geoff and Izzy went to both. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t... Video: youtu.be/WdF-jHKBKFM

Sri Lanka have conceded 470 runs so far, using 4 bowlers, one of whom has bowled 7 overs. #SLvAus

Ludicrous XI for Australia. No Schutt with the pink ball. No Wareham, who has dominated with bat and ball. McGrath down at 8 to shoehorn in Healy as a non-keeper. Only four front-rank bowlers, and Brown is erratic. Lopsided nonsense. #WAshes

The Afghan women’s team in full kit together on the field for the first time.

There we have it, another bat-first century. Update the numbers, that makes 25 out of 35 in Smith's career. www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/j...

At Galle in 2016, Usman Khawaja was bowled without scoring a run twice on the same day. This time he's had three reprieves and made a hundred. Cricket. #SLvAus

Important day tomorrow. Afghanistan’s women cricketers who had to escape the Taliban are playing their first ever match together. If you’re in Melbourne, please come to the Junction Oval to give them a supportive crowd. Free entry, 10am.

I think Steve Smith is a Test great, no question. But this is excellent, evidence-based analysis of his claim to greatness and how it stacks up against those already in the 10,000 club. A really interesting read.

The kind of question that can make a lot of people yell at you for being an idiot, but... does Steve Smith count as a great Test cricketer? www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/j...

The Final Word Weekly, with Izzy Westbury our guest host joining Geoff to answer the big question: why do English batters just keep... wandering off? Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w... Video for Part 1: youtu.be/sQPpKkkAq5A

Wholesome. A few researchers help our cricket history show. Not media pros, enthusiasts. So we started asking them onto the show to tell a story of their own. A bit nervous, but they've each been great. This week, Pat Rodgers. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s... Video: youtu.be/g_YLqeitnQE

Been saying all series that Wareham + King should be playing rather than three quicks, not least because of Wareham's extra batting. And she walks out to smack 38* from 12! #WAshes

Was that ODI cricket's biggest brain fade? The more we think about Amy Jones’ running, the less it makes sense. Alex Malcolm joins the show. #WAshes Audio: podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/t... Video: youtu.be/K5oTxWvAfB0

Recorded our first Women’s Ashes Daily during a torrential storm with no internet. So: Geoff solo, snowed-in-cabin style. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/t...

By the last tale, this may low-key end up being one of our funniest Story Times. It's a slow burn all the way. Geoff and Adam with guest host Glenn Finkelde. Audio: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s... Video: youtu.be/RzYi70ndsN0
