Ukraine was attempting to stop Russia sabotage/military funding in the Donbas, they had already been invaded back in 2014. The idea that Ukraine is somehow responsible for Russian aggression is absurd.
What led to this war was Putin deciding that he wanted to recreate the Russian empire.

Because they invaded Ukraine, executed, tortured and raped thousands of people, and abducted ~20k children.
It is obvious that Russia will not stop this rampage until they are no longer able to continue. That means we need to crash their economy.

To some extent, yes. The Russian people are complicit in this war.
However this guy was most likely drafted, and attempting to desert would probably lead to a worse fate than being blown up by a drone. His options are very limited.
