A totally self-inflicted wound, made worse by the fact that the Best & Brightest are quickly gonna figure out quality of life is far better out of the USA these days, and will never come back.

Most people think trade is “cars for wine.” But the moment you realize that trade is mostly in intermediate goods—stuff like steel, or aluminum—your whole perspective changes. Tariffs aren’t taxes on “them.” They’re taxes on your own country's production line.

Tesla already had big problems. Then Musk went to battle with Trump We need to bring those "problems" to SpaceX and Starlink as well.

Corruption at the highest levels.

Do as I say, not as I do.

A fulfilling escape: just finished reading So Very Small, on the slow then sudden rise of germ theory, antibiotics & vaccination. The deadly dance between people and bugs is riveting when told by @tomlevenson.bsky.social, and touches us all: My dad was saved by early sulfa drugs in Boston c. 1938

Love the raised eyebrow. Even he is shocked

She now has a Democratic challenger in next year's Senate race. Please fully fund this campaign, including technical and logistics support. Iowa deserves far better than this shit.

I don't think I'll ever be enough of an economist to understand this, but perhaps it tells us something about crypto's function in our economy: The TRUMP meme coin is down 10% on news of a best buddy breakup. (The US$ was unchanged by the news.)

Explain to me, like a child, how this makes any sense.

It’s not leadership. It’s subservience.

As Trump and Musk attack each other, don't forget: their ongoing DOGE cuts have made your life worse. It doesn't matter who wins the Trump-Musk feud. Thanks to them, millions of Americans have already lost crucial public services. youtu.be/M5LD2CSOzmI?...

Peachy. Cut off all Federal funding for SpaceX & Starlink contracts immediately.

This 2018 essay by Sasha Hemon has never left me. lithub.com/fascism-is-n...

A "significant share" of companies surveyed by the Federal Reserve said they raised the prices of goods and services unaffected by tariffs. One company said they did this to "enjoy the extra margin before tariffs increased their costs." See the problem here? www.axios.com/2025/06/04/t...

JFC.

Killing every business that uses steel in their production. Oh, and will have little impact on domestic steel production. Are we winning, yet?

Trump's 50% taxes on steel, aluminum take effect — raising ire of Canada, Mexico and the EU www.axios.com/2025/06/04/t...

Your daily reminder that the only reason they are trying to pass a "big" bill is because they want a $4 trillion tax cut for the rich. Don't do that and Medicaid cuts not needed, cuts to other programs.

Fabulous idea for subs for Canada. Ideally nuke subs with nuke cruise missile capacity. Tell Australia’s PM @albomp.bsky.social and get them in on it too. Can’t trust fascist turncoat America for ANYTHING military ever again. America is the main adversary now. #Never51 #FUQ47

Trade War & US Inbound Shipping: We published a data viz this morning that used a 13-week moving average to capture inbound shipping. By request here is that same data viz using a 14-day moving average. We expect the shortages on the shelves to show up during the first two weeks of July. #EconSky

For decades, Republicans in Washington have told us that tax cuts would trickle down to workers. Instead, wealth and power has accumulated in the hands of the richest 1% at the expense of the rest of us. Trickle-down economics was always a hoax.

Economics literature: Trump's 2018 steel and aluminum raised prices, reduced output, cut employment and reduced wellbeing. Trump, 2025: What if we doubled them? I can't find a *single* study that suggests this is a good idea. Lemme know if you find one.

This exchange is revealing, terrifying, and intellectually bankrupt. No world leader would ever want to enter a room to deal with this guy because he's a crank.

Trump's tariffs, tax cuts, and austerity budget are a windfall for the super-rich at the expense of the poor. This is what class warfare looks like. [Via @4taxfairness.bsky.social‬]

Winning?
