📢We are enormously excited to announce that the keynote speaker for Bristol Translates 2025 will be Damion Searls, translator of Nobel laureate Jon Fosse and seven other Nobel prize-winners.

'Some nights he hit the clubs... as a moon-faced goblin with melting green wax for hair, on others he materialised as a deranged jester on roller-skates, his head explosively crowned by a sunburst of razzmatazz spikes.' Read Charlie Fox on Leigh Bowery in @ocula.com: ocula.com/magazine/fea...

Today’s reprint:

'I let the sensations, the rhythms, the eccentricities of their forms sit inside the truth of my practice at all moments. It’s about negotiating what kind of fidelity I want to have.' Oluwaseun Olayiwola, author of STRANGE BEACH, speaks to @anothermag.com: www.anothermag.com/design-livin...

'The doctor told me there are two kinds of people: unhealthy people who refuse to get help, and healthy people who always think they’re dying.' - WHAT AM I AFRAID OF? from Sasha Debevec-McKenney's forthcoming JOY IS MY MIDDLE NAME in @newyorker.com: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Both of these books are excellent - a good score, and great to see @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social becoming poetry publishers!

STRANGE BEACH by Oluwaseun Olayiwola is now available to stream as an audiobook via Spotify. Listen here: open.spotify.com/show/3Mq06vQ...

What a joy last night to meet and speak with the brilliant writer and thinker Vincenzo Latronico. It was Vincenzo’s first ever English-language event and it happened on the same day his novel, Perfection, was longlisted for the International Booker. Read it if you haven’t.

I subscribed to @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social’s new poetry series and these two glorious entities landed in Aotearoa today. Going in…💙📚

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Peter Cornell died on 1 March 2025 in Stockholm. We want to take this moment to celebrate Peter’s writing and to mourn him with a few words from Joachim Hamou, his friend and agent: fitzcarraldoeditions.com/2025/03/pete...

Delighted that Vincenzo Latronico was able to pay us a visit this morning to sign copies of his International Booker-longlisted novel PERFECTION These cakes are hot, so be quick if you'd like one! www.londonreviewbookshop.co.uk/stock/perfec... @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social

The man on the airplane said that you can cause problems for yourself if you are always trying to find out the reason why. The man on the streetcar said he sometimes wondered if there weren’t enough brains distributed at the beginning of the world. —Sheila Heti, Alphabetical Diaries

Very much looking forward to #AlphabeticalDiaries by #SheilaHeti @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social, especially given @sccenglish.bsky.social’s enthusiastic endorsement 📚

A fantastic evening celebrating Vincenzo Latronico and hearing him discuss Perfection with Jess White! We've all been taken by this existential little novel about the emptiness a social media-stylised life. Signed copies are available in store!

If there is one writer that I’ll read anything by, it’s the late Janet Frame. “Why need one write a note if one can communicate with a left-over wrapping of silver paper from an empty cigarette packet?”

Just received the news that it is on the longlist for the 2025 International Booker Prize… great: more readers for this pearl.

'Frame refuses to bask in her exceptionalism, her almost miraculous escape. Triumphantly, mournfully, her plots are anti-redemption and anti-assimilation.' Audrey Wollen reviews THE EDGE OF THE ALPHABET by Janet Frame for @newyorker.com: www.newyorker.com/books/second...

We are thrilled that PERFECTION by Vincenzo Latronico, translated by Sophie Hughes, has been longlisted for the International Booker Prize. Read more about the longlist here: thebookerprizes.com/the-booker-l... @thebookerprizes.bsky.social

This Wednesday!

We have some #signed copies of Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social Superbly translated by Sophie Hughes, this is a taut, spare sociological novel about the emptiness of contemporary existence, scathing and brilliantly affecting www.foxlanebooks.co.uk/product-page...

🎧☄️ Daisy Hildyard's new short fiction 'The Aquarium' envisions the North Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough being underwater, and where humans and marine species have co-evolved to become hybrid. 🌊 Listen to Daisy read the story in full, or read/download a copy at wildeye.org.uk/the-aquarium

Just seen this. It’s a brilliant interpretation of Ernaux’s book. The play did have to stop for a short while to deal with an emergency. I hope the audience member recovered quickly. And what a remarkable piece of acting to pick this up mid-scene.

I was lucky enough to see The Years at the theatre this week. Beautifully acted and directed and profoundly moving. Topping all of that, the star of the show: the words. What a stunning adaptation of Annie Ernaux's memoir. @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social fitzcarraldoeditions.com/books/the-ye...

My latest, for the Telegraph: I've reviewed Diane Seuss' frank: sonnets, and Modern Poetry. Spoiler: both excellent: www.telegraph.co.uk/books/what-t...

The new @dseuss.bsky.social is just wonderful. Published by @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social

Book mail! The second volume of Proust for the #proust2025 readalong (obsessed with the mad collage-y cover design by Christian Lacroix 😍) and the first book of my @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social sub 💙 #booksky

Fitzcarraldo Editions, Giramondo Publishing and New Directions have announced that Giada Scodellaro is the winner of the 2024 Novel Prize for her debut novel Ruins, Child. 👇 #BookSky

Some news! My debut essay collection, Portrait of an Island on Fire, will be published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in June 2025.

Impossible to convey all the pleasures of this marvellous book in one post. Enough to say that one of the least of its glories is that it spends almost two pages tracing the affinities between Satie and Les Dawson.
