In a dystopian future the some unlucky humans are left on a broken, tainted Earth and struggle to maintain their personal and cultural empathy. Oh, yeah, there’s robots and laser guns, too! PKD was the craziest in the best way possible. It’s a classic for a reason! #BookSky

‘ God’s blue. Blue? Uh-huh Blue like the ocean. Blue. Sad and cold and far away like the sky is far and blue. You got to go a long, long way to get to God. And even if you get there, he might not say a thing. Not a damn thing.’ An ex-con tries to find peace & to exist in SoCal #BookSky

All I can say is, wow! This collection of interconnected short stories really got to me. A lot is being made about the humor in the book, but it belies a seamy underbelly of sorrow and outrage. Not for the squeamish. But it’s very important to hear what De la Cerda is saying. #BookSky #Books

‘How sad, I thought, that this commune, I had to looked forward to had turned out to be a bunch of Nazi fraudsters. I have wanted to meet good people and give them the contaminated money we had swindled from arm factories.’ A mother/son road-trip forces each to address their complex past. #BookSky

Two Dominican friends, Sal & Charo, struggle with money, relationships and family in 90’s NYC. Very well written and fantastic character development! It meandered a bit at the very end, but it’s an impressive first novel. #BookSky #Books

‘But if he’s a nice bear…he won’t hurt us and he can be our friend.’ A young single mother decides to leave the judgment of her small community and moves herself and her 6 yr old daughter into the remote homestead of a quiet, kind hermit whom she has fallen in love with. A modern fairytale. #BookSky

Our protagonist ‘house sits’ her familial home and invites a stranger to be her housemate and their coexistence is filled with bizarre misunderstandings. She has differing views of the stranger; sometimes as boyfriend material, other times as a pesky animal. Very weird and LOL funny! #BookSky

‘ Is someone really here with me? I wondered. In the way that light in two different places becomes pinned to a single spot the moment one tries to observe it.’ Han Kang’s latest is a bit uneven, but utterly fascinating! An exploration into friendship & a dark episode in Korea’s past. #BookSky

Two brothers struggle to pay their recently deceased fathers back taxes and unpaid hospital bills and are perilously close to losing the family homestead when they agree to illegally acquire wildlife remains out of Yellowstone for quick money. Fast paced with a lot of twists. #BookSky #Books

A collection of 12 stories that asks the question : what does it mean to be #Irish Beyond the traditional stereotypes there are endless experiences of that there’s not just one answer to what it means. O’Donnell is a great writer & her Novel, Nesting, is getting a lot of praise. #BookSky #Books

‘And you, how would you go about stealing the Mona Lisa?’ A new mother/novelist gains access to The Louvre overnight for ‘research’ & as the night proceeds she thinks about her complex love for her dad, about art and life in general. A small book with big ideas and tons of quotable lines #BookSky

A great work of Italian modern literature, The Tartar Steppe is an allegory about the futility of (individuals, institutions & nations) looking to external factors (other individuals, institutions & nations) to determine how we conduct our lives. A good life needs action, not just reaction. #BookSky

A set of 14 previously untranslated short stories for the last decade of Mishima’s life. Even with his notorious bio, it can’t be denied that he was one of the 20th Century’s greatest writers. A good place to start, if you’re new to him & must for anyone curious about Japanese literature! #BookSky

A young orphan girl, born into 16th century French nobility, has her wealth and estate abused by her appointed guardian and she is taken to pre-settlement #Canada A great Historical Novel - intriguing, well paced & while it has a whiff of the mythological, it’s based on a true story. #BookSky

A terrific 1st novel which chronicles the sibling rivalry between two Irish sisters and the repercussions that stem from the choices they made. Multiple narrators, multiple narrative forms, a shifting timeline and a host of topics, it flounders towards the end, but it’s a great read! #BookSky #Sky

Now, when I was just a young boy Standin’ to my daddy’s knee Papa said, ‘Son don’t let Jack Frost get ya and do what he done to me’ Snow on the Bayou! Be safe y’all!! #NolaSky #Nola

I’m definitely a #noir guy when it comes to Thrillers, so, sadly, I feel a little blah about this novel. Feeney excels at creating a creepy island atmosphere. They’re plenty of twists and turns, but they’re inserted into the plot with a heavy hand. Liked the ending, though. #BookSky #Books

Pork Enchiladas Verde from Mayas in the Lower Garden District, So good! #NolaSky #Nola

Cuban Eggrolls, basically the insides of a Cubano in an egg roll wrapper and deep-fried. Served with a fantastic piri-piri honey mustard dipping sauce from Mayas in the Lower Garden District #NolaSky #Nola

Have high hopes for this! I like the idea of fleshing out one of literature’s all-time baddies. Comes out 2/25. Has anybody read her ‘A Tip for the Hangman’? #BookSky #Dickens #Books

A coming of age Australian play about 16yr old Gillian as she navigates the minefield that is high school. It’s a good story and Gillian makes a relatable protagonist who finally comes to terms with her fears. A tad dated with 80’s slang, but it’s Aussie slang and that’s always fun! #BookSky #Books

‘Maximalism was one of the main tenets of my childhood. We expressed our emotions through possessions.’ The Hipster Grifter tells all! Funny, anxious, and a wild ride. A young woman wreaks a lot of havoc before she’s trapped in her web of lies and has to pay the price in jail. #BookSky #Books

A very graphic collection of 11 stories that go deep into the anxieties of being young & alive in our current world. Clark explores many genres; horror, sci-fi, satire and surrealism with aplomb and zeal. Not for the faint of heart, but highly recommended. #BookSky #Books

Some fun merch from my friendly neighborhood bar. #NolaSky #Cats

When Burl’s daughter goes missing he rallies the troops. When he finds her in the O/R he declares war on the rival crime family that put her there, risking his illicit cannabis empire and the safety of his own family. As we’re left to wonder just how far one man’s ego will take him. #BookSky #Noir

Two down on their luck friends, Hap & Leonard, sign on for the ‘perfect’ heist after Hap’s sultry ex-wife comes back into his life. Slow to start, with a lot of exposition, but the protagonists are likable, the arch villain is pretty evil and it has a solid finale. Book 1 of 14. #BookSky #Noir

Two strangers Ivar and John are victims, with differing levels of magnitude, of egregious policies enforced by greedy landlords in 19th century Scotland. The chance meeting of a hermit and a parson leads to an unlikely alliance. The ending’s a bit rushed, but it’s a great read! #BookSky #Books

Obscure Writers Part 1 Naguib Mahfouz (1911 - 2006) A prolific Egyptian writer/novelist who started writing historical novels about Ancient Egypt, but also ventured into allegory, Roman a clef and more modern works as well in his prodigious catalogue of work. (1/3) #BookSky #Books

‘ Mother, I dream you just to be able to see you. Heaven falls nearer in sleep.’ More a long poem than a novella with introspections into the imprecision of language, the complexities of Korean history, martyrdom and the desire to be your authentic self. There’s a flow to this book. #BookSky #Books

‘The modern tragedy is man’s vain attempt to adapt to the state of things that he has created.’ Joana was never a ‘typical’ girl; bright, inquisitive and always trying to makes sense of her existence, she unnerves people who are close to her. A slim novel chocked full of ideas! #BookSky #Books

A Chinese-American with anger issues and a penchant for throwing things and her Caucasian academic husband host each set of their parents on alternating weeks at vacation rentals. Very funny and observant. As Wang always is. With an overall message of inclusion and acceptance. #BookSky #Books
