I see amazing bravery, generosity, and leadership from folks illegally fired NIH and NSF jobs. Then we have toadies doing what Jeremy highlights. Yes. Sex is a biological variable. Gene expression, and endocrine environment, and reproductive physiology, and fuck why do I even have to type this?

Collaborators fired at USDA. Program officers fired at NSF. Study sections suspended indefinitely at NIH (also firings). It's impossible to just keep your head down and do the work, as the work and the people are vanishing in front of us. 🧪

NSF funded my grad work with a fellowship and a doctoral dissertation grant. NSF funded the curation of my fossil collection in a museum. NSF funded the IODP expeditions and research for my first post-PhD papers. NSF currently funds me through an early career award. NSF gave my life science.

Please let the GEO/EAR community know: Program Directors and Mission Support who’ve been at NSF under two years were just terminated via Zoom. Even those of us whose offer letter stated one probationary year and whose government data states “permanent”.
