Why is there no person or team at Defra working specifically on grasslands, when they cover at least 40% of England?🚨 In an open letter, we're calling on the UK Gov to urgently address this & fully realise the value of grasslands now🌱 Learn more πŸ‘‰ www.plantlife.org.uk/our-work/the...

Instead of sending flowers – which are often grown abroad, packaged in plastic, have a high carbon footprint, and last just a couple of weeks – send herbs! Many herbs have nectar-rich blooms that attract bees and butterflies too 🐝 More eco gift ideas: bit.ly/3F0eWv2

As the next 8 days are looking overcast with occasional rain, I decided to get out to #ElHondo for the first time this year. I certainly managed to get my fill of waterfowl and was delighted to also see Barn Swallows, House & Crag Martins, speeding around the skies! #birds

I don't whether bird flu, this season, will cause serious problems for humans or not. But the notion that we should ditch efforts to be prepared, in case it does, is mind-boggling. www.reuters.com/business/hea...

Incredibly, bottom trawl fishing is not banned in all or even most UK Marine "Protected" Areas - nor is oil or gas drilling. And yet, look what happens when marine creatures are given places where they're properly protected from these destructive practices πŸ‘‡πŸΎ 🐬🐳 @oceanauk.bsky.social

I visited the Oregon Coast a couple days ago, and encountered this Red-breasted Merganser. This appears to be a female (immature males look similar, but not this time of year). They will head to the arctic to breed in the summer. #bird #birdphotography #redbreastedmerganser #naturephotography

Looking almost like an inorganic object, like twisting green plastic emerging from the earth, this mutated green earth tongue, Microglossum viride, is probably the most unique earth tongue I've discovered. Green earth tongues alone are super cool to find, but this one takes the cake! πŸ„πŸ“· πŸ“ΈπŸŽž 🌿🌱 🟒 πŸ„ πŸ“·
