Agreed on that, given that most of the human characters are more or less explicitly of South or East Asian descent. I can’t recall a specific description of MB’s skin or hair color, though, but I understand AS not matching a lot of people’s mental image of it. (Didn’t match mine either.)

I think he has great potential for the role -- his performance as Brad "Iceman" Colbert in Generation Kill has strong Murderbot vibes. Outwardly calm, unflappable, and hypercompetent, while very quietly freaking out at the utterly insane stupidity going on all around him.
