A bunch of Tom and Daisy Buchanans. They smash up things and creatures and then retreat back into their money or their vast carelessness.

The Second Amendment is used to make sure Republicans in Congress know what will happen to them if they exercise too much of the First Amendment

Libertarian is what fascists called themselves before they could go mask-off; there were very few actual libertarians, & those probably feel really lonely right now after the NH Party started posting about putting people in jail for their speech

Yes! What baffles me is the whole very very stupid: “he won’t do the silly things he did last time” attitude, when this thine he’s not constrained

Speaking from history, the traditional way governments get themselves into trouble is by not paying the soldiery or pissing off recent veterans

He is a guy who has been protected every time he fucked up, by bankruptcy courts, TV networks, wealthy lawyers, Republican Senators, and Supreme Court Justices. He has no concept that breaking US Gov. payroll would leave him in trouble that he couldn’t be saved from

Shocking to me that here we are in 2025, and people don’t understand the basic psychology of the eternally insecure bully

What kind of special doofus doesn’t think people already know that the Department of the Treasury handles payments? I mean, did he ever wonder why “Treasury” was in the name, or did he only first hear about the Treasury yesterday?

Now a bunch of right-wing dipshits have taken over the archives of USAID. My prediction: they're going to go through the agency's emails and other communications and pluck individual sentences and phrases out of context, to make them look sinister.

This is what happens in other counties before coups, violent crackdowns, big upticks in political violence… you name it.
And. It’s. All. On. Trump and his cronies, with assists from the GOP (but i repeat myself) and neo-Cofederates in the judiciary.

She-Hulk was panned for calling out exactly how the problems with Marvel were based on just ending everything with CGI physiques punching each other in increasing improbable configurations

I mean, those Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Family Services entries on the list are almost certainly Medicaid or Medicare payments, right? What happens in once Medicare/Medicaid stop reliably paying their bills?

It looks like not only is Musk using the US Treasury payment system to give himself a line-item veto over Congressionally mandated spending, he's also farming the information out to Q-type influencers

I think it’s stupider than that, and that he can’t tell the difference between a trade deficit and a budget deficit; although it could be both!

Democracy doesn’t mean whoever wins a slight plurality in the national vote gets to rewrite every American institution to satisfy their own whims. The president is not an elected king. If we let him become one, the project of American democracy is over.

Yeah, that whole speech in A Few Good Men turns completely when you realize that no, there is no fucking way anyone in America needed Col. Jessup on that goddamn wall
Should apply to the Federation doubly so

One thing that does give me hope is seeing that there are people out there who do this well; I don't have any connection to @sarahmackattack.bsky.social but her relentless efforts to get squid and ocean science out there in a stunning variety of ways is the kind of thing I'd like to see more of

Gawd, why do idiots say these things that uselessly fill the atmosphere with their voice? No one was ever unclear on this! "Let me be clear" is just him trying to sound like George Bush

They certainly are! I just don't have any good ideas of how to get them the same kind of media volume that's enjoyed by someone like Joe Rogan. There's a niche market for experts, but I'm not sure how to scale that market up from niche to broad appeal
