While some of these examples are exclusively a female issue (the mansplaining, the “you can’t game” thing), some aren’t. I see plenty of married women out there hitting on men (even taken men), and some of the most explicitly sexual comments made in my chat are by women, often first time chatters.

I need to point out that this applies with the genders reversed too. I’m the kind of guy who makes sexual innuendoes with my male friends (as it’s often so much safer for things like mixed signals) and the amount of times random women will ask if they can watch etc…it’s just as creepy from women.

The pricing data gets even more interesting when you look at it through the lens of inflation. $80 for Mario Kart doesn’t look so bad compared to paying $140 for games back in the 90s, does it? Top end games have always been pricey. Gaming has never been a cheap hobby.

Here’s an interesting graph for people complaining about Nintendo’s pricing for Mario Kart and being outraged over $80 games. You’ll note that it wasn’t until 2022/2023 that prices returned to their mid 90s peak. And this is before you factor in inflation, this is just raw pricing.

I’m someone who normally won’t spend a lot on video games. But if you were willing to spend $60 on Breath Of The Wild in 2017, $80 on Mario in 2025 seems fair. A $25 grocery shop now costs $40 (which is an even higher rate of inflation) and that’s something you NEED TO SURVIVE.
