i realise i should add "because i want to meet up and talk about art" to the post because if not i might put someone in an awkward position by springing the question onto them, sorry.

i shouldn't be having to mess around with custom materials to do a subpar kiss cut because you locked away the option

Cricut ALREADY have me!
i buy the Cricut™ tools to go in my £200+ Cricut™ machine which i use to cut out my Cricut™ branded Smart Material™ on my Cricut™ adhesive mats (plural).
was that still not enough of a profit margin? you really need a monthly subscription to make stickers too??

i knew they had a bunch of stuff behind their paywall but i didn't think they would put something so core to the functionality of the product behind it too
i didn't even know i didn't have access to it until i clicked the button, it wasn't greyed out or anything

i had one before and stopped using it because their design space was so limited but it's been a decade and it looked like they'd solved all the problems...
they have, they've just put all of the solutions behind a paywall

there's so many things like this that you can technically work around if you're willing to get really into the process but i don't think people should have to do a bunch of extra work to use what should be basic features.
currently working my way around this problem as we speak

people have asked me if i would ever design some Cricut exclusive papercrafts or do a partnership with them and the answer is no because of stuff like this
it's anti-creator, it's anti-consumer. basic functionality like this should be included with the cost of buying a machine

oh you want to do a kiss cut using the ÂŁ200+ machine you bought? the thing that's a basic function which literally just involves holding the blade arm ever so slightly higher during the cutting process?
You need to pay us a monthly fee to do that actually. wow so epic

always happy to be part of someone's protest, i'm super busy this month but i'll have some free time coming up and i'll see what i can do.
if you have access to photoshop i could even design a system so you can add any colours you want and make your own too?

you thinkin' like rainbow wreaths for pride etc?
i did a lunar new year wreath a lifetime ago, were you envisioning something like that?

i design the vast majority of projects without 3D software, using traditional paper engineering techniques
this T-rex was designed as a flat template but i had access to the original game file for reference, so I could rotate it around to figure out measurements & screenshot parts for texturing etc
