I believe that, as academics, we have a responsibility to shine a light into the darkness of post-truth, to reveal the illusions and historical erasures that have enabled post-factuality. Thus, decolonisation continues to be urgent, timely, and necessary. folukeafrica.com/decolonisati...

Cutting aid to increase spending on defence is a false economy and suggests a deep mis-understanding of global politics. In a world of intensifying geopolitical competition, aid cuts render Western powers less powerful, credible and safe. A thread, from someone working on aid for a decade 🧵

Reading Fanon's "A Dying Colonialism.". Because why not?

If you have ever wondered why our safety net is so inadequate and so full of cruelties and indignities, it is because of anti-Black racism.

The level of brainworms required to define yourself as a warrior against antisemitism and yet downplay Sieg Heils is quite something.

I wanna watch this

I would love to hear from anyone who has any suggestions for updates to this crowdsourced reading (and watching) list. The prompt was, "If there were to be one book that you wished law undergraduates arrived at university having read, what would it be?" folukeafrica.com/a-reading-li...

'How long will we continue to point out the bad apples before we admit that the orchard was planted on a mass grave?' Guante—"How to Explain White Supremacy to a White Supremacist" www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dbwc...

I’m so looking forward to all the articles on why young women are being ‘pushed into the arms of the far-left’ due to their ‘legitimate concerns’ about things like bodily autonomy, rape culture and the hollowing out of state welfare protections, right?

"‘Woked up the bum’ and other moral panics about academic decolonisation in the British news media." www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

It to keen in the law sphere yet but Dean Spade’s “Normal Life” opened my eyes. #Blackademics #Academicsky #Booksky

I’ve made a set of free worksheets for anyone who is working through the steps in THE BOOK PROPOSAL BOOK. Get them here (scroll down the page a bit to get to the downloads): manuscriptworks.com/book

All these essays explaining voters’ “legitimate concerns” and no mention of the terrifying daily realities of migrants who move to those voters’ neighbourhoods, improve their existences with their labour, and are rewarded with regular threats and violence against their person and their property.

"Race-conscious policies were created to counter the hoarding of resources by people who had written into law racist policies of exclusion. These orders are from a new brand of segregationists...When universities comply, they become part of the new segregationists."

To me, a Nazi salute means, "I want to murder your family." There can be no irony about it: It puts deep anger and hatred in my heart to see it done and I will never forgive anyone who justifies or minimizes it.

"anyone concerned with truth & accuracy should avoid the term “tribe” in characterizing African ethnic groups or cultures." In the uncertainty, I have been thinking a lot about this recently: "Our dreams for the world are currently too small, our visions currently too limited, our structures unwise, unsustainable and unsafe. We must.. do more than continually reproduce an uneven world." folukeafrica.com/numbers-name...

In this month's post, through the lens of a host of speculative fiction, like Supacell, Ògbójú Ọdẹ nínú Igbó Irúnmọlẹ̀, Kindred, Lagoon, and Dr. Who, I seek to question what to do about the incommensurability of racial justice within the terms of Euro-modern law. folukeafrica.com/law-racial-j...

Being a highly qualified black person or woman = "mired in woke culture"

What's the difference between firing someone "for DEI" and firing them because they are Black?

“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist” James Baldwin

The new US rules seem to be: If you’re not a white straight male, you got your job by DEI and are fair game for being removed. What’s worse is that their peers seem to be sitting back and letting them.

This is a very personal poem that tells not just my own story. For children born into the shadow of Empire, we are always too strange to be home anywhere. Never enough for home. We carry home heavy on our skin. Home is a dangerous spirit. Home is a desperate soul. folukeafrica.com/home-is-a-da...

I have never trusted anyone who adopts a "fight for my causes, then we can fight for yours together" approach to activism, justice, or anything else really.

Sixty years ago, five assassins from the Nation of Islam murdered Malcolm X. The FBI had spent years escalating the serious political differences between Malcolm and NOI leaders—and worsening petty jealousies NOI leaders had for Malcolm as his prominence rose.

At least 3,000 killed in Goma. This is horrific.

Review: “A shared world based on a blend of African cultural worldviews” – that's the Sauútiverse, a self-contained universe with its own rules, languages and vivid characters, showcased in the third volume of Year’s Best African Speculative Fiction anthology.

provocative gesture that resembled a different provocative gesture is about as cowardly a construction you could cough up to avoid sounding . . . provocative
