In all honesty I don't really know what I'm talking about since I don't care enough about those levels to watch the full breakdowns of how they work, but I'm pretty confident that they're doing something completely different

I know Spu7nix uses outside software for levels sometimes but he doesn't just blatantly port stuff made in a different engine. It's still being translated into GD triggers and stuff. Idk how this program works but it seems completely different to me

If this ends up being the case, it's possible that this is a blessing in disguise since there will be less of this stuff rated. Just looking for silver linings I guess lol

All we can really do is just hope RobTop won't rate these levels. Like, any merit you could have given to these "limit pushing" levels is gone when made in a separate engine, so I wouldn't be shocked if Rob never rates these levels for what is essentially cheating

"Attacking" is probably a strong word since this is a pretty lighthearted post but still thought I should bring it up

Admittedly very funny although I would say a little uncalled for. With exceptions of legitimate corruption (i.e. cherryteam) I've admired how you typically criticize the levels and not the creators. As bad as abducted is I don't think vegtam himself is really worth attacking

I swear Nexus has titled, like, 4 videos "HOW" since the start of 2025

Hopefully this makes sense. Had to trim a lot of what I wrote lol. Character limits suck

(5/5) Comparing this to the NCS gc is unfair imo. Ultimately, my point is that cinematic levels have their place, but it's about how that power is utilized. When there's a deeper meaning it can be a really strong thing, but when garbage like the NCS stuff gets made, then it becomes misuse.

(4/5) I'm glad you point to Aperture because it's one of the winners that lacked that factor. I like the intro, but at the drop that feeling just died because there was no story. It was just "hey look at this funny 3d thing I made." This, Kisaragi, ADE, and Abducted are the largest offenders of this

(3/5) There can be soul in flashy levels. It's harder to convey, but several of these winners felt much better to me because they made me feel a certain way. Playing Out of Place was just 3 minutes of pure bliss, not because it eased some insecurity, but because I got lost in the atmosphere of it.

(2/5) I think the NCS contest deserved this criticism because a lot of those levels DID feel soulless. BUSSIN and BERZERKER didn't feel like they wanted to convey anything; they simply existed for the sake of being funny and cinematic.

(1/5) I've been fighting with myself over this issue since the SGC results came out and I've kind of come to the conclusion that it exists, but I don't really find the SGC to be a prime example of it.

There was once a time I vowed to never watch a short and then I saw a single one and couldn't escape, truly tragic

I think boring can be okay sometimes. It feels more like it's intended to be an easy, laid-back experience. It just allows the player to get lost in the atmosphere, which can't be said for other levels since there is none (except maybe Stardust Sanctuary but idk)

It's probably even my new favorite gauntlet level, which I can't believe I'm saying about a contest level lmfao. But again, fair enough to not like the gameplay, so no judgement. Just very surprised is all 😅

Shocked you don't like Out Of Place lol. Yeah, the gameplay is a little slow so I can't judge too harshly but it seems like you've enjoyed djudjeito's work in the past so that really surprised me. To me it feels like the only level that's hard to label as "soulless" since it feels more emotional

lfgggg, I remember you hinting about this in the top 50 hard demons with my new map. Been looking forward to it since then

I would still be skeptical about hideout too. There are a lot of legendary levels already and a ton that Rob still hasn't rated, so with hideout being an earlier submission it's hard to know what to expect

Do you care about gameplay for this or just atmosphere? Celestial Caverns by Th04 and Subwoofer has a really good ending imo but the gameplay is kind of lackluster.
On another note, ritual by LavonAffair has an incredible ending, but is similar to Death Moon so could maybe be seen as unoriginal

Also, sorry this is through a YouTube link instead of just being attached. Bluesky won't let me confirm my email atm but I think there's a length limit on videos rn anyway so this will suffice for the time being lol.
