A Startling Admission From a G.O.P. Senator: ‘We Are All Afraid’ www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/u...

Find the Maine Public Radio or Maine Public Classical signal closest to you with this handy map! And welcome to all the Mainers who are now covered by our 7 new signals. 💙

Great photos from the farmers’ protest in Augusta, Me yesterday from @suitupmaine.bsky.social

The Flying Eagle Cent was America's first small cent, made for a short period from 1856-58. This one was found on a farm in Dresden, Maine, right near Swan Island, where some Eagles nest. These are notoriously hard to find in identifiable condition due to poorer quality copper.

The Zanol Co founded in Cincinnati 1908 by the Mihalovitch brothers was a door-to-door goods distributor that sold a wide variety of products. Similar to Avon, this was a company that empowered women to be able to make their own money. Women weren't even allowed to own property in the US until 1848

Let's see what the day brings with these idiotic tariffs. My apologies to our neighbors..

Is anybody able to tell me anything about this small rock picked up in northern Maine on a riverbed? I'm speculating there's a fossil but that's a wild guess. The material feels like sandstone? #Naturalists 🌿

Good morning! I just wrapped up my painting of snowdrops and will be moving on to the violas after a few posts. I hope everyone have a wonderful & relaxing Sunday ❤️ #art #artist #watercolors #watercolor #painting #botanical #floral #originalart 🎨

DOGE needs to investigate this guy wasting millions of taxpayer dollars playing golf, which, by the way, he sucks at. #ProudBlue

Make no mistake, a people's veto of the continuing services budget would cause a government shutdown, stopping funding for education, revenue sharing for Maine communities, and payments to healthcare providers. The effects would be immediate and wide-ranging, impacting every community in our state.

This is the single item I have ever spent the most time researching. This is a watch fob from Civil War soldier James Wellman Jr of the Maine 29th Infantry from Waterville. After finding this item a few years ago I tracked down his grave in Chelsea. I will be cleaning the gravestones very soon.

What you can do — our own annalovesvoting.bsky.social shares her rec: "The pro-democracy movement is coming together on April 5 to protest against the Trump / Elon power grab. There are dozens of events planned in just about every state — make a plan to make your voice heard!"

It's absolutely astounding.

Reminder: DOGE isnt real. Its a fake department. Fugazi

This decision is imho unquestionably correct under our constitution and only remarkable insofar as it takes courage to render a correct decision in the atmosphere of pervasive intimidation emanating from the White House.

In one of the most important cases to watch, federal district court finds Elon Musk actions (in this case toward #USAID) in violation of the Appointments Clause - sufficient to issue a preliminary injunction. A very big deal. www.courtlistener.com/docket/69636...

BREAKING: Judge orders Elon Musk & DOGE to restore access of USAID employees, including those on administrative leave, to USAID computer systems. Judge Theodore Chuang, Obama appointee, also bars DOGE from actions related to USAID shutdown. Doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Update on Alien Enemies Act case Judge Boasberg orders government to file under seal and ex parte answers to these questions on the two flights leaving U.S. airspace before 7:25 p.m Saturday:

NEW: Minnesota Republican state Senator Justin Eichorn, co-author of the "Trump Derangement Syndrome" bill that just made headlines, was arrested yesterday in Bloomington for allegedly soliciting sex with a 16-year-old girl. minnesotareformer.com/2025/03/18/g...

Picking up indirectly that DC MPD may be at least slightly denying the report of what they did to roust the US Institute of Peace folks. Sounds like non-denial denial. But we'll see what shakes out.

From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement. Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”

From the WH readout of Trump’s call with Putin, where Putin did not agree to a ceasefire. It seems that while Trump is launching a trade war with the EU and North American countries, Trump expects “enormous economic deals” with Russia soon.

The touchstone of most authoritarian regimes is not the kind of total control that most people feel in their day-to-day lives. It is that the regime is only selectively bound by law, producing constant low-grade anxiety as to whether, how, or against whom power will be exercised.

Ask yourself: Why would anyone who wasn’t an asset of the Russian government do this? Why would any decent human being do this?

If you thought Trump and his sycophants have forgotten about elections, you are wrong. The GOP voter suppression and election subversion war machine is already preparing for the next election.

By moving to the “center,” Democrats have failed to fight the forces that led us to Trump: widening inequality and the unchecked power of billionaires. There's no "center" anymore between a takeover of the government by oligarchs and true freedom. Dems need to learn this.

Medicaid gives 80 million Americans the ability to access care they desperately need, like my constituents Mary Lee Ruby and Michael Thomas. Donald Trump and Republicans want to force people like Mary Lee and Michael off Medicaid to give billionaires tax cuts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=reoc...

"Trump’s antics at the DOJ, and his larger agenda of “lawfare” against his political opponents, should alert those opponents to one crucial reality about living under a fascist regime: The law is not on our side." My latest in @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/poli...

You can’t make this up. The Trump admin is erasing images of one of the servicemembers who raised the flag at Iwo Jima. What an outrageous act of disrespect to one of America’s heroes. His name is Pfc. Ira Hayes, and he deserves to be honored. wapo.st/4bzcQPe

It is human trafficking.
