Sometimes animations won't be updated every frame though, especially for objects beyond a certain distance. I think that was true for jellyfish for example.

Specific animations. "Smoother" is how that would be perceived, but it would be nice if they removed the ambiguity.

maybe it means increased LOD, draw distance. Who knows! Because Nintendo isn't being specific. "Made on-screen movement smoother" *probably* means higher frame rate. But then they say "smoothed salmonid animations" and "smoothed animations for certain characters". Probably frame rate of those ๐Ÿงต

Probably not tbh. They are coming off a hugely popular console and they didn't have to sell people on the concept. According to Mat Piscatella, launch numbers are largely constrained by production. You're selling to your most diehard fans either way. bsky.app/profile/matp...

Oooh, I'm excited for you. It's a beautiful game in many ways.

Wait, what's the rule? Can artists not post their designs outside the contest?

Sticks and buttons are great, larger size is nice, but I agree it's super uncomfortable in handheld. Worse than switch 1

I originally dropped it due to the terrible frame rate issues. Switch 2 has given me a reason to go back and I'm loving it. I'm somewhat ignoring sword mode because using the echoes is so satisfying.

Uh, yes please?

The issue isn't the launcher, it's where people are willing to buy their games.

I picked one up, no pre-order, no lines. I was going to wait until there were more games but the fomo got to me and a store nearby still had stock yesterday afternoon. Feels like a solid upgrade so far!

Of course bluesky compression kinda ruins the point of sharing...

I honestly can't tell if it's rendering in 1080p or 720p. I'm fairly certain the UI is 1080p at least, the text is very crisp. Better text will be one of the greatest benefits of the 1080p screen for me.

Second game I played was Echoes of Wisdom. It got a free Switch 2 update. I had to drop this game when it came out because the stuttering made me nauseous. I believe it was rapidly cycling between 30 and 60 fps mode. That's completely gone now. Framerate is very smooth now, even in handheld.

We had fun with the exploration. Every time we found a P-switch we handed off the controller. Some are much easier than others but there are certainly plenty of challenging ones that will take a few attempts to learn I found a gap in the geometry. First screenshot on the new system ๐Ÿ˜‚

Played MKW in person with a buddy. It took me WAY longer than I want to admit before I noticed how the middle tracks of each cup transition from one environment to the next. The "traveling between tracks during races" thing.

โœ… Screen looks bright and colors are punchy. I'm only reminded it's not OLED when it glows on a completely black screen. I haven't tested any darker games yet though. โœ… When are they adding Switch 2 setup music to the Nintendo Music app?!

First impressions of the hardware: โœ… Joycon 2 sticks and buttons are larger and more comfortable. โŒ Kick stand is really thin and feels flimsy. A huge step backwards from Switch OLED. โŒ The front of the console isn't as rounded as Switch 1. This edge digs into my palms in handheld.

Same, the reveal and first run was epic.

Congrats! Hope you have time to take a well-deserved breather at this point.

Nevermind the cardboard, I need to know how the vents smell compared to the Steam Deck.

Only one first party game day one, and I'm not a die hard Mario Kart fan. Too much effort to secure a pre-order for a system I'm only curious about.

Note, the builds and prototypes were probably made with gray boxes and placeholder assets. I can believe it would be difficult to show off their narrative and nemesis systems.

Yeah, I think everything mentioned in Jason's article would be considered pre-production. Even the vertical slice may have been the last hurdle to enter full production. The folks he talked to also cited a very long ideation period.

How is this the first time in my life I've seen this explanation. I guess because it makes too much sense.

According to Jason Schreier, they had prototypes, builds, and had passed their latest milestone in March. They were working on a vertical slice when it was cancelled.

Nothing in the article mentions NAT?

So who actually owns the patent for the nemesis system? Surely it doesn't just die with Cliffhanger?

Is that Nata as a rider?

In the same boat here. Considering if I want one badly enough to do the GameStop midnight launch.
