Cryptozoology/Folkloristics/ literature studies. Depending on what you are actually studying? I think the study of fairies isn't taken seriously, if it can't define what it's actually studying. "Real" fairies? Folklore of them? Literature about them? Cultural or theological impacts of the belief?
