Given our current president I'd say it probably still has some truth.

It's a result of a binary choice where for many being the clear less shitty option is enough. But that's like telling people be happy with this loaf of stale bread, the other dinner option was a plate of dogshit.

No. It doesn't "look like [he] just did a Nazi salute."
That Nazi motherfucker DEFINITELY just did a Nazi salute.

A big fucking dose. "But we are going to do what we can to maintain the status quo that isn't good enough for the majority of Americans" is a losing message and it's basically the only one most Democrats give.

This is how you know being a member of the Senate is a super easy job. If it actually required busting your ass almost no one would sign up for 6 more years when they're 78.

This. It's complete bullshit and a lie, but one of the appeals of Trump is that he's a fighter and tells it like it is. The same applies to someone like AOC, even when people don't agree with everything she says, they know she's fighting for them.

Many people were saying this before January 6th. The frustration is that SHOULD HAVE been the line in the sand for the vast majority of the country. That felt like the moment all of us saying, "the GOP/Trump is trying to destroy our democracy" should have been joined by the rest of society.

So you are just a piece of absolute human garbage.

I feel like this had to have been covered in Men are From Mars Women are from Venus. John Gray absolutely would have said he's single while he is in his cave.

So is the idea here that a bunch of guys have multiple partners but then a larger swath of guys have no partner? Or is it that guys might describe themselves as single when it's more casual dating? My personal theory is they lying because make the lady taking the survey sounds cute.

It's exactly like that. It's doing something that is tremendously stupid and damaging for an ostensibly reasonable goal. "Cutting waste and exposing fraud" is not a bad thing, but doing it by cutting contracts and grants and firing people basically at random is a mind-blowingly stupid way to do it.

I would say we are far weaker now. The 1920s/30s was a time of choosing more isolationism but at least attempting to continue to build domestic strength. Now we have dipshits hollowing out everything to just weaken us for their own financial gain and ego trip.

It's amazing that a quote that great is a distant second to the greatness of those sideburns.

Maybe he could have more people monitoring them if he wasn't such a scumbag asshole that fired tons of people. If we ever get to sentence him for his crimes the punishment should be strapping him to one of his dick rockets and sending him to Mars without a space suit.

Pretty sure he's got a bunch of bets so likely he hit some of them no matter who wins.

Yes in the same way cutting off your leg is a great weight loss strategy to lose 20lbs.

And yet James Carville has consulted the Democrats into losing multiple elections to Donald Trump.

Not sure why he's too far for her. I kind of think she just picked a nominee or two out of a hat to vote against. There's really no other explanation because if Kash Patel is a problem why weren't so many of the other nominees that she DID vote for?

How dare you besmirch the cinematic masterpiece that was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania...which I didn't see because I heard it wasn't very good and my son didn't care about seeing in theaters.

What's sad is if it does end up affecting them, they'll go deeper in their cult mentality and continue blaming it on people they don't like. Trump could punch their mother in the face and they'd tell you she deserved it for acting like a bitch.

Yeah, use them when possible. They are one tool, not the whole toolbox.

Contact the media and tell them what's going on, outline those things but don't resign. Speak up to coworkers, peers, supervisors (if they are on the side of doing what's right). Make them fire you because you stood up for what's right, don't give them an opening.

The question is...is that the point of DOGE? Or at least one of the points.

I think the frustration is from two things. One, a team that overachieved, made a WS and should have won but didn't. Then were better the next year but didn't get as far. And an offseason that did not address ANYTHING to do better than that this year.

The problem is the resigning, not the "quietly" part. They should be LOUDLY staying.

Comparing what FDR did in his first 100 days to Trump is incredibly stupid. FDR became president in the midst of a global crisis. We literally changed inauguration day because he had to sit around twiddling his thumbs while Hoover didn't do anything for 4 months.
comment in response to

Kind of. Though both of them suck. But ultimately probably did get in the way of some of Trump's worst and dumbest impulses. But when we are talking about prosecutors, they aren't political appointees, they are career civil servants, resigning to open a spot for a loyalist isn't going to help anyone

Good research should involve failure. A lack of replicability could help learn WHY a previous study had certain findings and a better understanding of problem that's trying to be understood and/or solved. Even if true, it is still a terrible example of throwing out the baby with the bath water.
comment in response to

Basically...yes. Stay as long as you can, argue for why this shit shouldn't be done. Be vocal and try to blow the whistle. Quietly resigning does nothing besides maintaining their sense of integrity while ultimately opening the door wider for someone who has none at all.
comment in response to
post
I understand the reasons these people resign, but given the circumstances wouldn't the more effective strategy be to stay as long as you can and do what you can to stop this stuff? You're just going to be replace by someone who says, "yes" so why not fight with your "no" as long as you can?

These are not people making good faith points, they are assholes arguing for augments sake. You could also say that due to the amendment process that the US Constitution has never actually been finished. But that's dumb too.
comment in response to

So I am a historian. The threads of any historical event, shift, or movement stretch very far back. Their beginnings and ends can be debated, but no one would say being influenced by the Magna Carta means we count the time from that until the complete Constitution as it's period of authorship.

It only becomes a real issue for people on the left when others are purposefully and knowingly using language that is hurtful and inaccurate with the intent of it being hurtful.
