As a neuroscientist who studies urban stress, loud cars/motorcycles should be banned, or fined excessively until drivers reassess their need to broadcast their self esteem with unnecessary noise pollution. I don’t need to hear your car in my apartment.

Wow trump really is bringing back US manufacturing

Not sure how all the tariffs are adding up but an IKEA kitchen from a US store now has a roughy 134% markup over the Canadian price. A basic wall cabinet that's US$46 in Canada is $108 in the US. Insanity!

Tfw your car was designed for the European market (notice the width)

Sorting through old Lego bits but couldn’t resist modeling a little mechanism I’ve been toying with

A small update on this: - Amtrak is planning replacement bus service to continue as needed beyond Sunday, March 30 🚌 - Amtrak has identified replacement train equipment for Cascades and working to move it into the region 🚆

Sheesh! Gonna need a burner phone number for political donations.

Free blue city business idea: all-electric lawn care service.

@seattledot.bsky.social @kingcountymetro.bsky.social probably just as well to remove the bus stops at Westlake and 18th if you can’t afford a safe crossing there. It’s faster to walk to the next stop than to the nearest crosswalk.

Wild watching Florida (and now Kansas) do a hold-my-beer on California's Prop 13 insanity. It's pretty well established that lower property taxes just result in compensatory home price hikes. It's a transfer from state and local governments (and taxpayers writ large) to incumbent homeowners.

New retirement goal just dropped

This administration is like a second pandemic. The biggest issue is all the avoidable deaths, but life is also marginally worse in a million little ways, and the foregone output (economic, academic, etc) will loom over us for decades to come

Swift’s forEach seems especially pointless when we have for-in loops, since (despite being vaguely FP-inflected) it can’t actually do anything without using side effects.

“What is this, a bathtub for ANTS!?”

Me: I can’t believe UK voters chose to torch their economy with Brexit. That can never be topped. American voters:

I’m on board as long as its further south www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/...

RFK really missed the simplest lesson of LBJ’s career, try not to get any kids killed if your name rhymes with “how many kids did you kill today”

Sure there’s a chance but I doubt Elon will read most of them

Wild how indifferent GOP leadership is to this shit.

I love this unironically, but also as trolling people who yell about tree canopy loss when their real concern is about having to share on-street parking with new neighbors.

The takeover of Twitter was a preview of what we're all living with now and a stark example of why you can't let any one person have too much money: they go insane and make themselves everybody's problem

Guess what’s moving up the Chumbawamba charts

@gruber.foo since HP has been in the news: www.theregister.com/2025/02/20/h...

I really wish Americans would stop treating the continued existence of Canada as the sort of thing they can do amusing thought experiments about.

Me, whenever I look into professional costs of a North-American transit project.

The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

Really lovely tribute to a font you maybe didn't even know existed: aresluna.org/the-hardest-...

Asking an LLM is like an old-school LazyTweet* and you should assume the responses are similarly reliable to those of a midwit reply guy. (*LazyTweets/Skeets are of limited use when you're a normie with a normie follower count, but I imagine folks with more followers could get useful info)
