on the lower end of the scale of issues stemming from the assassination of Polygon by the coward Jim Bankoff - my recently finished essay on Shinichiro Watanabe and the architecture of / approach towards his future dystopias needs a home 😬 anyone interested and able to pay, please do get in touch!

Talking about the ongoing tension that is causing Deborah's late night show to lack identity and the brilliant arrival of Julianne Nicholson on this week's Hacks episodicmedium.substack.com/p/review-hac...

🚨ELSBETH MUSICAL NUMBER🚨

This sucks. It’s been seven years since it finished and I still think about all of Jen’s coverage of The Americans.

Hell fucking yeah. Couldn't help but fist pump at every single dramatic violin note www.youtube.com/watch?v=orKh...

Thrilled that Holly Pierson got a costume design Tony nomination for her work on Oh, Mary! Here’s my recent conversation with Holly about her work on this play and collaboration with Cole Escola www.backstage.com/magazine/art...

What happened with Polygon today is so fucked. Vox Media has made some atrocious decisions in my six years here but this is really something else. And to do this in the middle of us bargaining a new union contract, where they scold us for asking for better protections, is just unconscionable.

Reupping that Team Decider is currently taking resumes for a new FEATURES EDITOR position, for reasons. 🫠https://dowjones.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/New_York_Post_Careers/details/Features-Editor--Decidercom_Job_Req_46269-1

pointless and cruel

I spoke to Max Minghella about this week’s episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. He was in Wales, where he’s shooting Industry but spilled zero details (he’s very good at keeping secrets) www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/the...

“And I’m like, what do you mean, you ‘do your own research’? You running a double-blind study in your living room, dawg?” - A guy walking ahead of me with his friends on a NYC sidewalk in 2021, also my favorite overheard dialogue of the entire pandemic

Wrote about the kissing and dancing (mostly the kissing) in the Étoile S1 finale www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/eto...

Obviously, I cannot wait for Nicole and her wig to go toe-to-toe with Lena Olin and the rest of this cast (I've said it before and I'll say it again but I have a soft spot for S1 as silly as it was) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pmL...

Back on the Last of Us recap beat www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/the...

Sinners dropping just 6% in its second weekend merits a much bigger headline than its $48 million opening. It is actual box-office news--news as in "This never happens." Just a giant thing, for Ryan Coogler and for the future of original material.

as always, shop indie!!!!! support your local bookstores bc you better believe they are supporting you ❤️

Jennifer Garner knows the way to my heart is by posting a photo with an Alias co-star. Works every time.

REMINDER we made a whole issue on Ryan Coogler's Sinners and you can (and should!) buy it right now!!

Perfect casting www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...

Talking about panic attacks, Carol Burnett, the fragmented relationships and Deborah being back in sparkles in this week's Hacks episodicmedium.substack.com/p/review-hac...

Can't stop looking at photos of the Étoile dancers, and also very happy to see choreographer Marguerite Derricks in some of the BTS shots (I also love how the NY and Paris spaces are used).

He's got a girl, I got a cat.

Considering how entwined my writing is with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel it probably isn't surprising that I adore Étoile. It manages the balance of funny and biting and holy shit the things this entire cast is doing (standouts include Luke Kirby, Lou de Laâge, Gideon Glick and Ivan du Pontavice).

Didn’t realise how much my face had caught the sun (maybe wind) from being on the coast yesterday until I logged onto Zoom (I swear I didn’t look as red when I was putting makeup on).

Dying for Sex's entire Emmy campaign should just be Jenny Slate doing a one-woman reading of Clueless.

Rick Unterberg, whom I wrote about in Last Call, died five years ago this week. Rick was the much-loved piano player at the Townhouse Bar. Severely immunocompromised, he was wiped out during the first weeks of Covid. He made many people gloriously happy for years, and deserves to be remembered.

Somehow only just seen this A+ Shea casting news deadline.com/2025/04/shea...

Saw and loved Sinners this weekend? We made an issue looking under the bonnet of this stunning hit, speaking to Ryan Coogler, Michael B Jordan, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Ludwig Göransson, Ruth E. Carter and Autumn Durald Arkapaw. lwlies.imbmsubscriptions.com/currentissue

Shawn Hatosy AND Elijah Wood! This one’s for The Faculty girlies.

Recapped this week's action-packed The Last of Us, and I am glad the thing I was spoiled for a year ago (I haven't played the game) has happened this early. Couldn't help but open with a major GoT moment that I was also spoiled for ahead of watching www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/the...

This is how I found out the pope died. This site officially has the juice.

A tale of two movies: Similar deal structures. Similar budgets. One made $45M from 3300 screens, post pandemic, and won the weekend. The other made $41M from 3600 screens pre-pandemic, and placed second. And yet this is the coverage.
