Wouldn’t end world hunger but literally every school system in our country has a ledger of unpaid student lunch fees. I’d love to see someone (or multiple someone’s) in your economic class just wipe those clean a few times a year.
We shouldn’t be charging kids to get nutrition at public school imo.

In less than four weeks, DOGE has jeopardised airline safety, nuclear safety, food safety & human health in the US - and millions of lives overseas.
Musk is the most dangerous man on the planet and every GOP member of Congress complicit in his work is culpable for what happens next.

No easy answers. But folks need to (a) be critical of the fact that private companies are filling gaps in our public transit, (b) understand that public transit design is nontrivial, and (c) think about how we could iterate on public transit design using them for inspiration.
All at the same time.

Is a private company "the answer"? Absolutely not.
But I do genuinely hope that folks at MARTA in Atlanta are, at least, looking at things like this and thinking about creative ways that ride-hail concepts like demand-based-routing could be applied to our bus system to make it more effective.

The State Government is unlikely to fund projects to expand the rail system faster (even though they *could* afford it), and the busses contend with Atlanta traffic and can't place stops everywhere. The nearest one to me is > 20 minute walk. Reliable information on times is hard to come by.

Atlanta is a good case study for the realities here. We're spread far out enough that it'd be costly to have a comprehensive rail network and buses are used to augment that. However, especially farther out from the city center, busses are not well located and infrequent.

Is suburban sprawl a thing largely motivated by racism? Absolutely. Is it a thing we should try to reverse and prevent? Absolutely. But also, our planet is in trouble, many state governments aren't open to funding these projects, and perfection shouldn't be the enemy of better than now.

There are *lots* of reasons for that. Many of them boil down to "rich, white folks made choices for mean/dumb reasons." But, our current vision of public transit is built around the constraints and features of highly compact cities. Suburban sprawl has created some cities that look way different.

Damn if that OPM reply isn’t a whole mood right now I don’t know what is. Whoever wrote it should be protected as a national treasure. 😂

Nobody has to do it. That’s kind of the point right? They can walk.
I suppose they’ll eventually find some poor soul with debt they can’t ignore won’t they. Sigh. 😞

I don’t know that I’m an “expert” but I’ve run it at two different places. Happy to take a look if I could help?

Thankful for y’all keeping the non fed workers among us informed. I’ve been private sector my whole career; but briefly interviewed at the CFPB. You have our support. Hold the line. ❤️🤍💙

Oh GOD. I cannot imagine how much stress I would feel if I was running IT for a school system your kid was at. 🤣

The press corps should ask the press secretary. Let’s just go though the list of everything they’ve treated and ask which ones the President takes issue with treating and why.
