This isn't all of the story, but a surprisingly big part of the "fear" of Mamdani isn't actually that he'll institute full communism, it's that people's friends-and-influence groups will be demoted from their positions of authority

This week on Everybody’s Business, @chafkin.bsky.social and I talk with @kedseconomist.com about the impact of immigration on the economy @businessweek.bsky.social @bloomberg.com #immigration #jobs #iceraids

The 60s are still in living memory, so I think we can be expected to remember there are quite a few grades between "domestic harmony" and "civil war" Not thrilled that we're going to be exploring a bunch of them! But the "imminent civil war" takes are overbaked

With ten minutes to deadline, @startribune.com redesigned tomorrow's front page in a flash, per senior assistant managing editor Greg Mees

Kinda wild that we all get to pay taxes to fund a civil war against us

We should've made a bigger national crisis of someone breaking into Nancy Pelosi's home & trying to kill her husband. But then, we should've made a bigger national crisis about hundreds of someones breaking into the Capitol & trying to steal an election. But then, we should've done lots of things.

"defund the police" was so obviously correct. I really don't care if it doesn't poll well. it's like telling me that I should stop saying I like vaccines if they stopped polling well.

Remember when people called abolishing ICE “radical” and now look at what’s happened. Being radical is the only way to fight fascism. Laying down is not an option.

Vance Boelter assassinating Minnesota lawmakers is just a slightly more direct version of what Kristi Noem is threatening to do by 'liberating' California and I think it's important that people understand that

Most cracked out news cycle in recent memory. Big thanks to Minnesota law enforcement for fueling this insane conspiracy theory by posting that picture of the words “no kings” with absolutely zero context

It’s not hyperbole to say that the deaths in Minnesota are on the GOP’s hands. They’ve built this political environment and they’ve allowed a demagogue to spread hate. This is entirely on them.

Homeschooling is all about indoctrinating and sexually abusing kids.

It’s not just that they normalize political violence. They also accuse the left of engaging in mostly imaginary violence, which gives unhinged right-wingers justification to “retaliate.”

Proud of Minnesotans

1. Let's put this together. The assassin appears to be the follower of the New Apolostolic Reformation, which holds that American society is literally under demonic possessions. (And you, dear reader, are one of the demon.) www.wired.com/story/shooti...

If I was a blue state governor or big city mayor I would 100% be (quietly) looking through FEC records and doing all I could to ensure that the cops that were on record as being Dem partisans were the people on personal protective details. That’s the point we’re at right now.

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

“A deranged maniac impersonated a police officer and killed lawmakers but if you’re an immigrant be sure you immediately comply with plain clothes people who won’t identify themselves telling you to get in a van”, what a fuckin country

at some point it is going to be America getting blown the fuck out by sophisticated, multi-year intel-driven strikes, because we put the dumbest and most venal people in the world in charge of counterintelligence

These are assassinations to flip control of the Minnesota House (was 67-67) and Senate (was 34-33).

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.

When a cabinet member announces "We are using the military to liberate an American city from its elected leaders," where do you go from there. What is left to say. The idea of that being anything short of a near-universal "Wait, what the fuck is going on" moment proves how far we've backslid.

A journalist got fired this week for calling this guy a hater, something that's just objectively true and has been true since he was a kid.

James Garfield understood exactly who Robert E. Lee was

It’s completely insane that US troops are illegally deployed to suppress domestic opposition and it’s not uniformly condemned by the press and political elite.

Trump underwater in literally every single issue. 38% approval overall. 27% approval on his spending bill. 40% approval on deportations. Musk also at 30% approval. 38% approval for RFK Jr. 35% approval for JD Vance. Nobody fucking wants any of this. poll.qu.edu/poll-release...
