Had a few days in the French Alps following the LIM25 conference in Annecy - awesome to see giant glaciers, even if it's depressing how much they've dropped in recent decades. Our glaciers in California are very small and I haven't actually seen any of them yet! Mer de Glace, near Chamonix FR ๐Ÿ“ท

NEW POOL BEAR ALERT NEW POOL BEAR ALERT. it's not Patch. Never seen this big buddy before. If he returns he will get a permanent name.

Is there an actual reason that mirrorless cameras don't either default to shutter closed when powered off, or include a mechanical "shade" to cover the sensor when you change lenses? Editing out unavoidable dust specks from the sky in all my landscape photos is truly driving me insane

Cape Arboreal Spiny Lizard, found only in the mountains of the Baja California cape #herps

Views of the Galiuro Mountains - threatened by foreign #copper mining - as seen from a bird's eye view. This is a winter view. With spring and monsoonal rains, these hills turn GREEN. Look at that #geology. Rare Sky Island ecosystem.

My painting LOST COAST

Today, this Solitary Sandpiper made more than just a #YYC pit stop, it reinforced a connection. After spending the winter along the coast of Colombia, it has flown northwards to find millions of mayflies emerging from the river -a critical meal needed to complete its globetrotting life cycle. #birds

I was surprised to see a reasonable proposal from the Republican house about transitioning to a vehicle fee instead of gas tax (important for EVs), only to see these idiots want to add a $100/year extra fee on hybrids instead of heavy emotional support trucks www.politico.com/live-updates...

I saw this gull in a dirt lot in Baja California, said out loud "huh this herring gull looks weirdly like a ring-billed gull", and moved on with the trip. Well, weeks later, I find out that this is very likely a Vega Gull from Siberia and only the 2nd ever reported in all of Mexico!! ๐Ÿชถ(see alt text)

Most people bird the Salton Sea in the winter when the big goose&crane flocks are around - but a quick day trip yesterday to the sea yielded some Bronzed Cowbirds, a Mexican species that shows up in the Imperial valley only in warmer months and can't be found anywhere else in California! ๐Ÿชถ
